I was sent the prototype rom by a good samaritan after scouring the entirety of the internet for it and coming up empty-handed. Because the sheer unavailability of this rom is infuriating, I took the liberty of making it an .ips patch for the European version of the game. You're all welcome. If this breaks any rules, feel free to remove it mods.

UPDATE: Frank "TheRedEye" Cifaldi generously took the duty of providing me with the original prototype. Evidence leads to the fact that the version I have previously received and distributed was altered by someone for something, presumably RetroZone. What purpose, or who actually committed these modifications, remains unknown. PLEASE UPDATE YOUR PATCHED ROM.

Why would the rom matter? Wouldn't the PAL rom be fine?

No. It's slowed down to 5/6 of the original speed and is incompatible with all NTSC consoles due to timing differences. The Japanese rom would work, but would be missing large chunks of sound effects and music due to utilizing expansion sound. The NTSC-U rom features all sound effects and music rewritten for non-expansion sound US consoles, as well as having proper timing to run on consoles. As a result of these, the NTSC-U Mr. Gimmick prototype rom is the only version of the game that works natively on US consoles. The PAL rom is completely unplayable on US consoles, and the Japanese one cannot be reproed on anything but an expensive Japanese Gimmick board, or played on a PowerPak, and if you manage that, the music only plays properly if you mod the internals of your NES.

So, this patch will convert the Euro Gimmick into the same thing as the US Gimmick? Cool stuff, BTW.

The IPS file contains every byte difference between the PAL and NTSC roms. What it does is swap the bytes so the Euro Gimmick is an exact replica of the US Gimmick, negating the need to upload a ROM. I would have just uploaded the proto ROM but I'm unsure of NA's policies.

Yeah, the Nolan bros have been able to upload unreleased ROM images onto the site. I don't see how the unreleased NTSC-U Gimmick would be any different.

Very nice, going to see if I can get a nice Wii WAD realeased for this. Game injects perfectly into SMB3 but of course JPN/PAL don't work correctly.

Ah right, I always thought the consoles handled the 50/60Hz speeds and not the Rom.

Well, that was fast. Lesson learned. Just use the patch then.

I think if you owned a prototype it would be fine ,but the patch is more than sufficient anyway

Probably safer too.

If anyone needs help with this just pm me, patches are very easy to use.

I think I use lunar

If it doesn't work, use Nintendulator or FCEUX and not Nestopia, that'll be all.

No problem. Somebody let me know if this works on hardware because it's been a bitch trying to find an ROTJ board and I don't own a PowerPak.
