I have the A/V cable for this thing.  The model 1 is mono only, but I've noticed with some games the sound suddenly goes "Stereo" and only the right speaker gets output.  It's as if the games are overriding the console's sound output.  I've noticed this with Columns mainly, though gameplay needs to go on for a while before it actually happens.  Basically, if the jewels fall on the right side, I hear the crashing sounds.  If they fall on the left, it's nearly silent.  I can play, but it's irritating to only get right speaker output.

I've unplugged the sound cable and made it to the left speaker, but it's like the left speaker on the TV still receives the right speaker's sounds only.

Any thoughts anyone?
