Yes! I will say that I can beat it, and I suck at platformers, so don't let people tell you it is too hard. It's simply fun.

I love all these. Konami is one of my favorite NES third parties. I'm not even much of a fan of the Turtles games and Gradius/Life Force.

 

It’s just a matter of taste I suppose. 

Lots of people like jackal but i couldnt play it enough to get through the second stage. 

Contra is ok.  But I’m never compelled to pull it off the shelf and give it a play. 

Castlevania. Idk I’ve tried more than a few times to play just because of the clout it totes. I dont think I’ve ever been past the first stage. ninja gaiden is so much better imo. I think the pace of castlevania turns me away. 

I nearly beat roller games back in that contest week. It’s... I don’t enjoy it. 

Bayou billy is ok. Better than most people give it credit for. But as far as beat a beat um up on nes it’s not even comparable to games such as DD, Battletoads, turtles, mighty final fight, Batman returns (oh there you are Konami).

Idk. I just don’t care for most Konami games   

 

I grew much more fond of RollerGames as I practiced it enough to no-death it. It's like Battletoads on skates.

You should give Jackal another try if you never made it past the second stage.

I know that Bayou Billy isn't for everybody. It's widely criticized for being overly hard compared to the Japanese version.

 

There is a Konami game i like more than all of those. Tiny toons.

Its all about Capcom.

It's an excellent game IMO. It excels in all categories and is a fun playthrough. I'd probably put it in my top 10, maybe even top 5.

It's a fair challenge, but the difficulty is offset by not only the unlimited continues, but also the frequent checkpoints throughout.

For all the Capcom "fanboys "out there Castlevania is among the best game series ever produced ,and it was originally a Konami franchise..In my opinion Capcom does not have any series' to compare ..But this is only my opinion..😉

I used to feel the same way about Castlevania. Playing Castlevania 3 was the turning point for me. I really enjoy 3, the level design is great and there are a decent amount of different ways to beat the levels. Now I own most of the console games. 

Connoisseur, I think the ghouls n Ghosts series is the closest comparison Capcom has. The platforming games are a bit different stylistically, but Maximo (except for being playful) feels similar to a Castlevania game.   


 

I do have to admit Capcom's "Demon's Crest is pretty awesome,and it sort of has the Castlevania feel ...

If you think about it Demon’s Crest is really a Metroidvania with an over world. So ya, it does kind of feel like a lost Castlevania game between the earlier platforming and later Metroidvania style games. And the darkness is def. there.

speaking of "metroidvania" why does castlevania get so much credit for this style of gameplay? It should just be called "metroid-like" The non-linear exploration stuff didn't get introduced to castlevania until the 11th game in the series.

I thought that it got introduced with Simon's Quest.

I think Metroid gets more credit for the non-linear aspect, but castlevania gets some points for non-linear with more points for RPG elements and action style within the non-linear setting.

I agree this is a Konami bootleg Mega Man, though.

But it's still decent and one of the better Konami platformers I can recall. Great music! 

Tricky game, but unlimited continues as I recall? I beat it so probably... I made a thread about it at the time. The rocket/flying stages were cool. 

I get what you mean by saying the character changing becomes gimmicky because you're bascailly forced to use other characters in certain situtations and Bucky mostly everywhere else. Could have mixed that up a bit better...
