5th Annual PRGE is Announced!

I think it's safe to say that Portland Retro Gaming Expo 2009 exceeded everyone's expectations! We broke new records for attendance, quantity of freeplay systems and number of vendors. Our new downtown location and various public transportation options were well received.

We're ready to do it again in 2010.

Once again we have secured the Portland Crowne Plaza Hotel for our event, with the following changes:

  • We have secured a second room. The 2009 show used the 5,600 square foot Belmont ballroom. This year we will have that room plus the 2,700 square foot Windsor room for a total of almost 8,500 square feet of classic video game goodness. In addition to these ballrooms, we will have access to two large foyer areas outside of each ballroom as well as the same outdoor plaza we enjoyed last year.

  • The 2010 PRGE will be a two-day event. The 2010 Expo will operate Saturday and Sunday, September 18-19, 2010. This will allow more time for freeplay gaming, tournaments, speakers, etc.

  • Service and hospitality improvements. The PRGE staff were extremely happy with the level of service provided to our guests by the Crowne Plaza in 2009, but we did agree on a few ways they can help us advance the Expo in 2010. They have committed to fully stocking the snack bar for the duration of the show and to provide meals/sandwiches for purchase conveniently near the exhibition area. Additionally, they will ensure the onsite ATM machine remains stocked with cash throughout the weekend.

It's safe to say that the 5th Portland Retro Gaming Expo is already shaping up to the biggest and best ever. Even at this early date we have begun to line up consoles and arcade machines for our extensive freeplay room. The number of freeplay consoles alone will likely be double last year's amount.

We expect to have the admissions and vendor rates worked out and on the site by sometime in January so please check back soon.

Also...

We just switched to a new email provider and imported our mailing list from the listserve. We will be shutting down the listserve as it was generating too much extraneous email. if you no longer wish to receive these messages from the PRGE, please use the unsubscribe link below.

Happy New Year from the Portland Retro Gaming Expo!

Alot of hard work was put into our last show, and it turned out great. We look forward to making this one even better. For those that can attend, this is going to be an awsome show, with a most excellent variety of games and systems for the whole family. I love being a part of the the contributers/organizers to this most excellent show, and have appreciated the hard work of all who were involved that made our last show such a big success. One thing is for sure, there is going to be alot of FUN in Portland this year!

John, I think that we live in the same town because I'm pretty sure that I saw you at the Goodwill earlier this week looking in the case at Nintendo games. Weird.

Anyways back on topic, I'll be going again this year for sure! Last year's convention was crazy, so I'm glad that another room will be opened up for everybody to spread out a bit more.

I will be there again for sure! And this time I'll pay less and get Dain's old room as opposed to paying more to get the room I had last year that was worse than Dain's room. Around and around and around, follow me?! I had a great time last year and hope to meet more NA folks this year.

i'm down, but man am I gunna be rusty. Dan can't make it to Gamecore cause of tax season, so I will make him come down with me for this one, lol.

we can work out details before, but are you thinking of meeting in Portland and finding a spot there?

I need to find a good hotel there.

Dude the event is AT the hotel.  You just roll out of bed and go downstairs in the morning when the show opens!

Did you see where Dain is in for Poker too!  Woot, if we beat him bad enough we can give ourselves all "KEY" icons when we make him put NA into the pot!

awesome, how funny would that be.

Cool, that sounds even better than I thought. Nothing like being in walking distance of your room.

This is gunna be sweet.

Did you bring any gaming stuff with you Erik? or did you just roll there with a wadd in your pocket?

HA... yeah it was great last year. We went out to the arcade/bar the night before and all had dinner before hand. Then got back to the room and went down to the show in the morning... then had dinner at the hotel restaurant that night. It was very cool... other than Dain kicking the crap out of me at Tron on an arcade unit someone brought, but even that was fun. Last year I just rolled like SystemFreak with a wad o cash to buy and bid on stuff at the live auction. This year I've debated on bringing some stuff, don't know will think about it. I think I will bring my laptop and maybe my PS3 this year to get some gaming on while there since it is a multiple day event this time.

P.S. I just drove there last time and it was like 5 1/2 or so for me. I know you and Dan live about 3 hours from me so figure something like the two combined for the drive. Although you can go straight down I5 to Portland so that has to shave off a couple hours for you guys.
