92,240 early entry... I know I can do better than that. This game requires some skill, but luck plays an equal part IMO.

i dont think i have ever played this game until today. my opinion, this game is one of the worst games i have ever played. its very tedious and boaring.

Man, the difficulty really ramps up after 100k points.

Nesking - while I agree that this is not exactly the most exciting pinball simulator around, it's not all that bad for being on the NES. For a mid-80's pinball table, it's reasonably feature-filled, with lots of stuff to do.


I would be really interested to see how they managed to do half-decent ball physics in 6502 asm this smoothly.

^Probably all done with clever use of table lookups rather than any real math.

I'm sure.  But they would be extremely limited in how many tables they can store, I would think.

You have a couple of variables that you need to pay attention to:  ball velocity in x and y, relative incidence angle of any impacts, flipper speed and angle at impact. 

I've noticed at least 3 or 4 unique coefficients of reciprocity for various things (bumpers, targets, walls, flippers).


The biggest challenge would be that you probably need data points for everything you want to capture, since I doubt there is enough horsepower for interpolation (especially not interpolation over multiple variables).


I have a bit of interest now in making my own pinball sim.  I think I will probably do everything in terms of energy.  That way it's easy to handle friction and angle of the table, and bumpers/flippers simply add a prescribed amount of energy to the system.

Then I would have a table of accelerations that are based on available energy and would just increment the current velocity of the ball.

If you don't like Pinball on the NES, then you probably don't like normal Pinball.

By the way me and my friend used to compete for scores earlier in the year. We ended up passing 200000. Now I just have to do that again and take a pic.

200k is impressive. Getting through the 50k (from 100 - 150) without visible bumpers seems to be the tough part.

Yup. The flippers disappear at 100k and reappear at 150k.

I rock this game maybe once a month with a friend. I have gotten into the 230k+ range. It takes some pretty good luck to get it that high though.

I thought the same thing happened with my cart, let my last ball go and did a quick google search thinking there's no way this was how it's supposed to be.  Turns out it is!  Will give this some more play time tonight.  300k here I come! 

I think this is one of the worst NES games, but I'm gonna try for a score.
