There's no way we have the bandwidth to do something like that at my work... but you have given me some greats ideas for hosting a video game competition night...

Gotcha. Yeah, myself (and 2 others to help plan the events) always check the office calendars to make sure we're not conflicting with other office events and not too many people are out of the office on the days we're thinking about.

This is what office places need to do. I'm jealous! Can I be a temp worker for the day you do these tournaments?

A few events that I've hosted since I first started this thread. There was a lull in events because of people being really busy during the holidays.

Wow zombi, great idea, great execution and momumentally awesome brackets you made there.

How did you first bring this up to people?

Did you put up posters, or straight up ask people if they'd be interested?

Thanks.

I first brought it up to a small group of people that I knew would be interested.

After agreeing to move forward with the idea, I then sent out an email poll to a majority of my office and gauge interest. I purposefully left out people that I knew would not be interested or would see it as unprofessional (i.e. the OLD gaurd).

After I received overwhelming support by the responses of the poll, we then moved forward with scheduling the first event. That event was a hit and it has become a fixture in our office ever since

Fixing the poll, eh?? Haha... gotta do what you gotta do.

Ps. I'm also loving the great artwork. Neat idea all around!

This idea is fantastic. Sadly, I'm confident that this wouldn't work at my current company.

Is your company hiring? I'm a Design engineer with 3+ years experience in automotive with a degree in mechanical engineering.

Both.

We have a custom-made, wooden prize box that we encourage all participants to throw crap into. Literally, just random crap. We've had pencils, candy, beer, comics, books, toys, bottle caps, money, etc.

Cool! At least the box goes with the contest! What has been the "best" prize so far?

Uhhhh...struggling to remember...

The last one we did was pretty nice. A few microbrew beers, Pop! figure, mini Pac-Man arcade cabinet, $5...

I'd be up for a Puyo Puyo tournament. Using either Puyo Puyo/Puyo Pop, or even Mean Bean Machine. I'm totally in love with that series as of late. Not really into fighters: one of my least favorite genres of all time.

Then you may like the arcade, platformer, or FPS events that we've had!

You will need a green card! And they are not easy to get for a Canadian unless you are sponsored by a US company.

Yeah man. I'm about 45 minutes from the border.

The credentials you'd need would probably be a resume...
