How do you even get past the spring on Level 6? I can't get past it because it goes to fast. I understand you should go to the left of the ladder then climb the ladder. The spring always gets me when I'm at the top of the ladder. I've died so many times on this

If you may, I'm going to quote myself to answer this

Indeed, the spring level is the make it or break it point once you reach level 5. The trick to not get hit by that spring gives me headache personally. You need to watch carefully from where the spring spawn from the left of the screen, and when it spawn from the tip of DK's left foot you can go safely.

Haha oops.  This will help a lot. I was just making blind guesses even though I could see the spring's position vary slightly. I couldn't solve the pattern myself.

Even by knowing this, it will still be a nightmare to masterize, at least that's the case for me

I bet it is difficult. BTW, are we allowed to use the Classic NES Series: Donkey Kong on GBA? It would be nice to play this when I'm on the go.

Hmmmmm... I would need to test to see if it is exactly identical (or have a confirmation of it).

I'm still not going to be in the top 10 by the end of the week but at least now I think 200,000 is in reach!

Ugh. I've tried over 20 times in the last 2 days but I can't seem to top 72,100... Stupid trampolines.

updated original post; now in the 100k club (barely).

Sure, it doesn't compare to some of the scores posted thus-far. Can't wait to see the first rollover!

LOL, even after watching Tom's video, that is still hard to do, I mean, to NEVER get caught by that spring.

That is definitely how I feel when my daughter gets tired of playing with her toys and decides to crawl into my lap while I'm playing a game.

To me, that might be the #1 most impressive thing I've ever seen anyone do on a Nintendo game. I know maxing out Tetris is an amazing feat as well but to me what Tom did there tops even that...

Due to some Powerpak troubles I'll be playing on an emu this week...which actually isn't too bad for this game since the movement is very simple. But goddamn, the sound effects in this game are annoying - but I need the sound on Level 1 so I can time my hammer run properly. It's a shame because the music is classic.

344600 - I really got the hang of the springs by now. Most of my deaths are very stupid, like this final death by a fucking barrel...

Made it to level C and skipped the hammers on most of the barrel stages. I think if I can make it that far again while hammerin' it up I might be able to crack 300k. I've owned this game since it came out and this is by far the most in depth I've ever played it before.

57,000

I didn't do very good. Maybe I'll edit my score later. I want to get at least 200,000 points.

NEW SCORE 2/14

It's easy to lose focus in this game after playing a while.

Now that I'm in 9th place I feel obligated to try again. Don't want to get bumped out of the top 10 at the last minute. Standby for hopefully a bigger score.

Oh man, I haven't even had a minute this week to play Donkey Kong. I love Donkey Kong! I'm terrible, but I love it.

Hoping to submit before the deadline. Maybe try to play tomorrow! Been really busy this week.

A quick tip for everyone:  On the rivet stage, try to make sure your hammer does not run out at the exact moment you pull up a rivet.  If this happens, you will immediately fall down through the rivet hole.  This happened to me twice by accident during play, and I was able to recreate it once more as a test.
