So I thought seeing as how The Wizard (1989) was celebrating its 30th anniversary this year I thought it'd be a good time have my wife watch it with me; here's a free copy on YT if any of you want to see it:
I often like to have jokingly say that I've boycotted the Academy Awards since it failed to get even one nomination (like the redneck joke about doing so because Smokey and the Bandit got snubbed Best Picture..at least it
did get a nomination for Best Film Editing); hee hee And believe it or not, she actually enjoyed it (and she's mostly a non-gamer)! And yes I was just under 10 years old at the time and yes it made me real excited for SMB3 (though I had to wait till my 11th birthday in 1991 before I got my own copy)...which would not make the US until the following Lincoln's birthday (maybe as a hidden nod to Howard Lincoln?). And contrary to popular belief, it is NOT "just a move length Nintendo commercial"...for the first 15 minutes not one peep is mentioned about video games believe it or not.
So what about the rest of you? What are your memories about this game? Of course there's no way a movie like this could work nowadays (remember the Internet was still several years away at the time), right?
