I've posted a trailer of my NES homebrew game STREEMERZ (ported from a Flash game) at http://www.fauxgame.com/. Check it out!

The game ROM itself will be released later this month.

Yes, it's legit. See the random flickering? Programming simulation of flickering in modern systems is somewhat tricky and not worth it other than to look legit, so I have my hopes.

Great job, sir!

Some of the animations, effects, and such seem almost too smooth to be authentic to the NES chipset. Either it's "NES-styled" or it's some amazing programming for NES. From the amount of interest this thread has garnered, I'm afraid it seems this is just an "NES-style" port. Again, I hope I'm wrong. Where is everybody??

The OP is not lying, he has a semi-detailed rundown of his development of it on NESDev. And he just is a great programmer, heh.

It's an NES port of the flash game STREEMERS, which WAS NES-styled though.

@nesmaster Not to discredit Thefox's work of course, but nothing seemed particuarly spectecular for a nes.

That being said, this is alot of work and required alot of skill to pull off. Congrats to thefox.

(and yes it is real like 3gen said it was on nesdev)

I trust the OP, just pretty rare to see such masterfully programmed homebrews/ports on NES like this.  Hopefully the OP takes my doubt of it being a "NES-styled" port as a statement of how great of a job he's done with programming it on NES.

Congrats Kalle!  Great work

Btw for anyone who wants to play this already. It IS a port of a flash game, i'll edit the link in in a moment.

I'm very excited to see how exactly everything turned out and what compromises (if any) were made.

This looks like a professionally done game from towards the end of the NES' lifespan, such as from 1989 to 1994.  Plus, it's essntially a two man job, as Podunkian laid out the original game, graphics, and music, while Faux edited it to fit within the system limitations.  It's not a pixel perfect port, but you wouldn't be able to see the differences unless you were asked to spot them.

Also, did you tell Podunkian about it?  This would be a great way to shed some light on the NES development scene, and prove that it isn't dead yet.  I counted like 5 games this year that have been released for the NES, which is a testament.  I'd also buy a copy of this game just to reward him for his hard work, preferably CIB.

Selling it might be a bit of an issue, since I think Thefox asked permission and got it but has since lost most contact with the guy or something.

That being said, I'd probably buy a copy.

Dude, isn't this just a hack of bionic commando? It looks just like it, even the CPU screen and grappling arm.

Nope, it's all original code.

It is however a port of a flash game, that was heavily inspired by Bionic Commando.

Yes Mr. Podunkian knows about it, he also has no problem with a cart release so it's a possibility.

I watch that video all day every day due to how excited I am! In fact, I've been comparing this to the Flash game, and even though it's less limited with technology, this port just looks leagues better. I mean seriously, what made Podunkian think that green dust looked okay? Not to mention, it was set in a rather large screen, and as such didn't look too good. Now that you crammed the same screens into the NES, they look much better put together, all thanks to system limitations.

Speaking of limitations, the only thing that looks off and quite jarring are those glowing orbs and pink diamonds. Specifically, how in colored rooms, they have a black border around them. I am guessing the black borders are due to the "god tone" background color, as said color has been set to be black at tall times, correct? I suppose a routine that allows you to switch the "god tone" out with a new color each time you enter a room would be unreasonable?

All I can say is it's not that simple. The main reason being that many other tiles rely on the background color being black. Maybe with some juggling some of those could be fixed, but I didn't think it was worth it given how complicated it would have been.

That makes sense to me. Those tiles must have the clear color which would be a pain to have to change the palette for that room.
