Thanks Jone.
This is the cart in the ebay auction that was found in Claremont, down to every last scratch and scuff. I spoke to Thom in great detail before Nick ever even considered offering. I truly believed, like everyone else pre Nick's involvement, that this was absolutely the real deal.
So what we are saying is that Nick has been conspiring to take me for 17k for 7 years, contacted this guy (conveniently located in Claremont) and had him list it as authentic, waited for me to jump on it, then back out. He then waited for me to casually call him and subtly brought it up. Then he had to talk me into borrowing some cash that he was just gonna steal anyway, staged a trip (with photos) of meeting this Thom guy, flew me to Jersey, and hung out for a day full of lies.
If that is the case, so be it. My "gold NWC" is worthless. Well, that is, to everyone not sending offers.
Scammers think much differently then normal people and professional scammers are very good at what they do. I wouldn't say youir friendship was fake for 7 years, but couldn't there be a chance that he doesn't have a problem taking advantage of freinds?
Lets say he came up with this master plan and knew you wanted it. If you would have driven up there and paid 22k for it, it would of been the perfect crime for him and the seller as he was never attached to it. Now since it didn't go as planned, it would of drawn red flags if the seller would of went desperately to 17k for you (since he had an offer for 25k regardless of seller fees). Plan 2 goes into effect and he comes in like a hero to help you out. You never question the legitimacy of the cart and put a repro label on it to sweeten the deal. Not only does the guy get you for 17k, looks like a hero and best friend, but even gets you to put a repro label on it, like a Nick Morgan Signature or something.
***I doubt this happened and I am not trying to add fuel to the fire. I just like to watch that junk on crime tv from time to time and some of the stuff these master crimals come up with is brilliant.
Edit: I am no expert but I looked at some of the cuts where the switches are at and every copy that I can get a close picture of comes up straight and clean. Would you be willing to post a more detailed close up picture of the switch area?
The closest I coulld find:
Just For Fun:
The hardest thing wouldn't be making a fake. The hardest thing would be introducing it in such a way that it would be accepted.
1. Mint cart a big no no. Create a worn cart. Sticker might be the downfall so no label.
2. Publicly have it turn up under another person's name in another city to test marketplace acceptance.
3. Read the public opinion on it. If all goes well claim that you then bought it from that seller.
4. Profit
I didn't follow this from the start. What do we really know about the ebay seller who didn't sell on ebay? The thread tone seems to indicate that the original seller was legit. But was it? What of it was planted from the start?
