You still have me on this website by a week or two but I only created Buyatari2 after I forgot the password on Buyatari.

Nick was selling reseals before NA was formed and it was discussed on both DP and NESWORLD. I don't remember if I was currently a mod on DP when it happened but either way I do know that I was an active member on both those forums and took a part in the first conversations and faced retaliation for it.

"humbled" sure did not last long. I have mixed feeling about whether or not there's any merit to what Nick has said in his recent five posts here. He may be a five star collector, but what's the point if he's a zero star trader? Much of it was likely bought with scam money.

Truth indeed. I started collecting NES in 2002 wneh I found a CIB NES Action Set tucked away in the garage after my dad passed away. I joined NA in 2011, nearly 9 years later. I may also have lurked on and off for about a year before I joined. In truth many google searches on specific Nintendo items turned up NA threads, so I figured it was a good place to sign up.

I've been thinking the same thing lately. I'm not sure how long it takes though.

While we're on the topic, I'm still curious how this turned out with VGA. Not trying to start any arguments, I believe everything OP has said about this cart. Just genuinely curious. Any updates Langenfeld?

Well....when I said "on the way to VGA". I should have said I peeled the label off and boxed it up. To get it done in an acceptable amount of time (not really willing to let it out of my hands for more than a few days) it was roughly $450. So, I decided to hold off.

A month or so later I had a couple conversations with VGA about trying to get it done in person. Best they could do is let me drop it off and pick it up in person. Still would take a few days.

I guess between the money it would take, the risk involved, and my belief in its authenticity, I just kinda let it go. I guess I should put this baby to bed at some point though. I don't know. DreamTRs "authentication" and my conversations with the seller both before and after the sale leave little doubt to me. It's staying with me regardless, better if I believe it's real!

Awesome! Thanks for filling us in. Either way, it's a beautiful cart. Congrats.

Just don't have them mount the PCB naked like that one guy did. I cringe for those EPROMs everytime I see that pic...

Shiiit. Claremont, NH is my original hometown. It's the town I lived in in 1990. It's still only about a 30 minute drive from me. And NWC right there....

I can see the concern, but an honest back story in a collectors community with this cart would look good on his part, in my opinion, if he were to ever try selling it.

...and the purist thinking on NA is still very mild compared to neo-geo.com. those guys can act like Nazis most of the time. If this were a repro mvs cart label, on a $50 game, they'd drive to your house and shoot you in the face

I'm not here to crap on anyone's achievements or rain on anyone's parade. But how the hell do you pay 17k for a game? Especially when it seems like you're not rich. I mean, you're obviously doing okay based on your collection and your ability to get 12k in a few days, but it seems like that money was really hard to come by for you. How do you justify that purchase? I love me some Nintendo, but I'd rather take 10 grand and go on a cross-country journey, hitting flea markets, thrift stores, and garage sales on the way rather than buy one game with no label from a guy who kinda sounds like he was playing you.

Which brings me to another question. Did you ever talk to the original seller of the game yourself? It seems like you emailed this person, then you just so happened to find out this friend of yours already had the game somehow and was 'kind' enough to charge you exactly what he paid for it. Seems like he could have been pulling a long con on you, but I don't know the whole story.

Anyway, congrats.

I spoke to the original owner extensively both prior to the purchase and several times after it. He realized that he lost out on some cash due to my falling out of the original deal, but still called to congratulate me and assure me of its authenticity. He had plenty of opportunity to make me doubt this carts legitimacy post sale, and absolutely didn't.

What's it matter if he's rich or poor.Point is he took the opportunity and ran it with it. Who cares how he came up with the money.Point is he paid for it in full and its legit.I could care less if he sold crack to buy it personally.

Thanks Jone.

This is the cart in the ebay auction that was found in Claremont, down to every last scratch and scuff. I spoke to Thom in great detail before Nick ever even considered offering. I truly believed, like everyone else pre Nick's involvement, that this was absolutely the real deal.

So what we are saying is that Nick has been conspiring to take me for 17k for 7 years, contacted this guy (conveniently located in Claremont) and had him list it as authentic, waited for me to jump on it, then back out. He then waited for me to casually call him and subtly brought it up. Then he had to talk me into borrowing some cash that he was just gonna steal anyway, staged a trip (with photos) of meeting this Thom guy, flew me to Jersey, and hung out for a day full of lies.

If that is the case, so be it. My "gold NWC" is worthless. Well, that is, to everyone not sending offers.

Scammers think much differently then normal people and professional scammers are very good at what they do. I wouldn't say youir friendship was fake for 7 years, but couldn't there be a chance that he doesn't have a problem taking advantage of freinds?

Lets say he came up with this master plan and knew you wanted it. If you would have driven up there and paid 22k for it, it would of been the perfect crime for him and the seller as he was never attached to it. Now since it didn't go as planned, it would of drawn red flags if the seller would of went desperately to 17k for you (since he had an offer for 25k regardless of seller fees). Plan 2 goes into effect and he comes in like a hero to help you out. You never question the legitimacy of the cart and put a repro label on it to sweeten the deal. Not only does the guy get you for 17k, looks like a hero and best friend, but even gets you to put a repro label on it, like a Nick Morgan Signature or something.

***I doubt this happened and I am not trying to add fuel to the fire. I just like to watch that junk on crime tv from time to time and some of the stuff these master crimals come up with is brilliant.

Edit: I am no expert but I looked at some of the cuts where the switches are at and every copy that I can get a close picture of comes up straight and clean. Would you be willing to post a more detailed close up picture of the switch area?

The closest I coulld find:

Just For Fun:

The hardest thing wouldn't be making a fake. The hardest thing would be introducing it in such a way that it would be accepted.

If you had a fake how would you pull it off undetected?

1. Mint cart a big no no. Create a worn cart. Sticker might be the downfall so no label.
2. Publicly have it turn up under another person's name in another city to test marketplace acceptance.
3. Read the public opinion on it. If all goes well claim that you then bought it from that seller.
4. Profit

I didn't follow this from the start. What do we really know about the ebay seller who didn't sell on ebay? The thread tone seems to indicate that the original seller was legit. But was it? What of it was planted from the start?

... here is the thing you must know about Nick ... the moral compass is missing ... if he thinks he can get away with it, he will do it

Commence stage #4!

I'm sure I will sell it for a loss. I'm ok with that. You guys were nice enough to shit on it pretty good for me.

Speaking of...why would you bump this thread and stir up shit? Remind me I owe you one.

Good luck with the sale bud. Crazy to think how few of these exist and I love how the background of so many of these has been tracked. Repro label or not this is a sweet piece of Nintendo history.

That reminds me of a joke I heard recently..

Tell a woman she's beautiful a hundred times and she won't believe you. Tell a woman she's fat once and she will remember it for the rest of her life because elephants never forget.
