Thanks bearcat-doug your alright by me no matter what guts says about ya. Haha

I sent bertsampson a link to all of the maps from each stage so he could tell which checkpoints people were at. I'm pretty sure that the checkpoints are 1/3, halfway and 2/3 through each level. You're at the Level 4 halfway mark in your currrent picture. I'll post the link to the maps here in case anyone else wants to be able to follow their own progress and make bert's job a little easier. http://www.gamefaqs.com/nes/58759...

The stages are so repetitive in some places that it's hard to tell. The entire first section of level 4 looks the same section over and over again.

I don't think I could have put it any better

I posted an early score last week, but I haven't this week since I just haven't felt like I've done anything worth taking a picture of yet.  I've been using up all my lives mostly this week so far to try to get used to the game and I'm getting better, but it's just not on the first two lives like I need to for the tier.  This is going to be another long weekend.

What happened to the toploader? You using something else? Just fyi, changing your setup during a contest is frowned
upon (especially if going from cart to emulator) and could invalidate your scores.

Hmm, is that so?  I hadn't heard of that before. I was hoping to do exactly that last week because I was on the road Sunday. I played DK Classics on my PSP, but between the bumpy roads an a not original hardwarer setup with small screen, it didn't go well. I didn't even come close to the score I submitted on the NES.

I don't think it's an official rule and it's mainly pertains to switching from playing on a console to emulators. Had a few people in the past a few years ago do that and it raised some questions about their scores. Not implying that anyone is doing that, just stating what happened in the past. Honestly,I think we have a really great group of gamers in these contests right now.

Thanks for the reply, guts. Hopefully my question didn't come off the wrong way. It was more of a "no kidding? I had no idea!" kind of thing for me. I would not have thought of that. Luckily I didn't run into that issue. Playing DK on the PSP is NOT equal to playing on the NES (at least for me)!

That last 5 min for DK Jr. was so nerve racking!!

You were safe. I on the other hand was definitely sweating it out.

I'm probably going to be sweating it out this week unless I can manage to beat the game. After those DK scores, I still wouldn't feel too sure about my chances of moving on.

I think one will most likely need a "game complete" next to there score, in order to advance, that still might not be enough :/

I agree with you skinny and bearcat-doug. It feels like a wildcard. Maybe that's why so many people are holding onto their scores? Less than half have submitted one so far. I really have no idea if I will make it or not. This game is tricky and somewhat rigid. I do enjoy it though.

Making progress. I guess I'll do like many others and post a score last second.

This will be one of those rare weeks where many will throw their score up there last second and cross their fingers.

Yeah, I wonder how many players from Tier 1 have already beaten the game and just haven't posted their scores yet.

I figured that you beat the game and couldn't wait until the last second to post your score.

I got my game on Thursday.  Like everyone else, I don't like having to press up for jumping.  It feels like this would be one of the easier NES games if they just used A instead.  Almost all my deaths have come from unintentional jumps or jumping the wrong way.

I'm not asking for hints or secrets to be given away, but I can't manage to get through the first stage with less than 3,000 points. I know about running under the jumpers, but I personally can't figure out how you guys are getting past the second wave of enemies at the end without killing the three jumpers. If you run under them and stab the regular runner, the pause from your knife attack gets you killed. Oh well, after Sunday passes maybe someone can elaborate for me?

I like to compete fair and in good form. youve got the idea. Just need a lil better execution.

It took me a while before I realized the runner moves faster than the jumpers.  I was waiting closer to the left side of the screen originally which is why I couldn't pull it off.

Thanks for this.  I don't think I would have figured it out on my own.

I'll go ahead and confirm it on my end, but as far as the score goes, waiters gonna wait.

We need one of those "everybody in tier 1 agree to post what they've got" agreements like last year, but that's more fun during the finals. You already know what I've got anyway since you asked.

I don't mind saying how I'm doing.  My best usable score so far puts me slightly behind what skinnygrinny has already posted.  I did have one run that I got to the end of Stage 5 without dying, but I had it on 2-player, so I can't use it.  I'm pretty confident I can get that far by tomorrow on single player.

I spent so much time this week focusing on NOT killing enemies that it affected my progress. My best runs are either early in the game with a low score or slightly further into the game with a much higher score. I'm trying to split the difference before the deadline. After a while, the pacifist rules can be frustrating and it gets tougher to refrain from attacking the enemies. Seems like the final scores are going to be very close.
