Going forward the competition will have two games running at a time.  They are separate leaderboards, with their own points awarded.  You can compete in one or the other, or both.

This appears to trip people up so I'm posting it again:  If you post an updated score please re-use your original post, or create a new one and remove your old score.  That will make my life easier sorting things out.

June Game #1: Tetris & Dr. Mario
Rules
  • Goal -> Combined High Score
  • Bonus Point -> 500,000+
  • You'll be submitted scores for both Tetris and Dr. Mario.  Do not select Mixed Match from the main menu
  • Tetris -> Select A-Type, and 0-0 for starting level
  • Take a pic of the high score table after game over
  • Dr. Mario -> Select Virus Level 00 and speed MED
  • Take a pic of the game over screen
June Game #2: Batman Returns
Rules

  • Goal -> Progress
  • Tiebreaker #1 -> Remaining lives
  • Tiebreaker #2 -> Low score
  • Bonus Point -> Beat the game
  • All settings should be the default
  • Play until the life counter says 1 on your first continue.  At that point you must pause the game for your pic.  Do not play on your last life.
  • You must be quick to get a pic if you beat the final boss

Batman Returns - the only beat em up I've ever beaten, and my favorite of the genre by far. I'll have to play that for sure.

Batman Returns was one of the first SNES games I got as a kid and I love the game. Can't wait to give that one some play time.

Tetris/Dr. Mario - 290,331

Tetris - 129,731

Dr. Mario - 160,600

Damn, does Tetris get really fast when you get to level 20.  I probably could've had a better score if I hadn't made some mistakes early on and prevented myself from getting more Tetrises.  I'll be hopefully giving this some more tries before the deadline.  I'm not good at doing combos in Dr. Mario, but I'm happy with what I got.

Batman Returns - Game Completed 430,300

Like I mentioned before, this was one of the first SNES games I got, so I'm pretty good at this one.  I lost some lives stupidly throughout the game, but it didn't matter much.  You earn an extra life every 50,000 points, so I played to earn lives rather than get a low score.  The most troublesome spots in the game are definitely the Stage 4 boss (Penguin), Stage 6 on the train when you have to jump the metal barriers, and Stage 7 at the Duck Vehicle.  Other than that, it's not too bad, especially on Normal.

-------------------------

My NES collection count: 757 games (16 to go for a full set)

Latest Purchase(s): Snow Brothers

"Wait...Bimmy and Jimmy??  How'd they make a mistake like this!?  Bimmy isn't even a real name!"

Beware the Bimmy Marsh!

I've played Batman Returns and enjoyed it, but I've never beaten it. I'm better at NES beat em ups. I might give it a go this month, but I don't expect to do very well.

Tetris & Dr. Mario - (52,055)

Ugh. Puzzle games. Was never very good at them. I always did enjoy Dr. Mario for the music and the colorful graphics. Interestingly enough, I found the SNES version to be generally less appealing than the NES version in these respects. I also have a lot of respect and nostalgia for Tetris...but I sucked at it then and I suck at it now.

Batman Returns - (Scene 2; 134,100)

I remember liking this game back in the day. I recall renting it more than once. I think I was even able to finished it. Today...I find the game oddly frustrating and didn't much enjoy it. The controls feel a bit stiff and unresponsive at times and the enemies/bosses can pull some really cheap nonsense on you. The music, though occasionally enjoyable, is also very warbly and full of reverb and not all that fun to listen to. The graphics are pretty nice...if unspectacular. Yeah, this game hasn't aged very well for me.

Posted some initial attempts at Tetris and Dr. Mario. I was never that great at Tetris type games and it was the first time I've played Dr. Mario. Mario needs to really slow down on throwing those pills

I don't understand how you guys get points on tetris. I've gotten to the 11th stage a handful of times now and have yet to crack 40K

Posted some updated tetris and dr mario scores. I think I'm starting to figure this Tetris out. That game requires a lot more skill than I ever gave it credit for.
