The only PS3s that are backwards compatible are the 60 gig I believe. Awesome trade though.

Man, I forgot that 20 gig PS3s even existed. Who would want one of those?

The hard drive is simple and cheap to swap so Im sure a lot of people just did that. If I didnt get a 60 gb I would have wanted the 20.

i've seen 500 gb ps3 hard drives for under $100 so the hard drive shouldn't be a problem. it does suck if it's not backwards compatible though, especially if you dont own a ps2.

thats when you just get another ps2, no need burning out a new system to play older games

Seriously, with the price drop of the new PS3 Slim, you might as well just grab a PS2 Slim off eBay for cheap and do your retro gaming like that. Still cheaper than a BC 60 Gig.

Anyone know if the PS3 does any upconversion on PS 1 or 2 games? The HDMI hookup might be a reason to get a BC PS3, to play older games in 1080p (or something higher than standard PS2 quality).

Yes it upconverts nicely for games and movies.

Yep I've got the 160GB PS3 and no backwards action. However I still have my PS2 slim hooked up so I can play all my PS1 and PS2 still on that just as easy.

This is really crazy.. I've done some research, and apparently your not suppose to be able to play ps1, ps2 on 40gb ps3 really? I bought mine used.. I guess they modded it somehow? Crazy.

Basically for the 60GB and 20GB, they have the Emotion Engine processor from the PS2 inside of the PS3.  To cut costs, they removed it from the 80GB, and emulate it through software.  Since there are certain portions of the Emotion Engine that can't be emulated through software, games that use these features won't work.  Some games also experience odd glitching with sound and textures.

All models should be able to play PS1 games.  It's the PS2 games they removed the BC for.  If your 40GB can play 'em though that's a bit odd.  Maybe they swapped out the HD on a different model?  How many USB ports does it have?

Basically, they won't play blue backed ps2 games
