Been watching this thread since the beginning but first time chiming in. I'm on a similar quest like yourself Parpunk. My goal is to finish off 20 games that I've never beaten on the NES. I think I'm at 17ish? lol. Got sidetracked a month ago playing Dragon Age on the 360.

But keep up the good work. Your little write ups and tips on some of the games are neat too. I would have never guessed to use the whirlwind slash attack in Ninja Gaiden on the last trio of bosses. I just used giant ninja star against the dad, upwards fireball on Jaquio and...something
on the demon. LOL! Oh, congratulations on the newborn! ^>^

List updated! Hit 30 game goal ! Woo hoot!!!!

empire & fox - thanks guys for the support and reading!

gutsman - yea bro, ive beaten jackal before. I plan to take on some mega mans. Ive beaten MM2 before. And i know I beat some others with emulators (cheating) like a decade ago. I have beaten castlevania on original hardware before. Grim reaper was TUFFFF and i kinda forget what i had to do to kill em, so i know it will be aggravating lol. But i wanna get at least one or 2 of those games on the list here this year. Me and my cousion was soooooooooooo close to beating river city ransom a couple months ago. We got to like a school wall or something and was stuck and got lost? then it got late and we turned it off. I beat jackal last year on 2 player (great game). I have never played kid niki, rbi, or the tecmo bowl and super bowl games before. (maybe for a second but nothing incolved. I beat life force when i was in school about 7 years ago with the 30 lives cheat. never played gradius, gyruss, much.

I do have my sites set on Karnov, rampage, friday the 13th, demon sword, little samson, krions conquest.

So many great games for the NES, so little time lol

thanks alot guys for following me! truly appreciate all the comments. When this is done, im gonna print this thread out and stash it away for my kids to see years from now lol. (sounds corny but i think its cool) he heh.
thanks!

Felix is an awesome game but its extremely easy, the hardest levels are the flying ones, and you can just cheap out and fly above the whole stage.

Do River City Ransom or Bucky O'hare.

Awesome goal, and some pretty challenging games you've taken down! I tried doing the "beat 1 game a day" last year, maybe the year before, but I think after 30 or 40, I ended up quitting.

Good job, some tough games in that list for sure. I'm in the process of doing something similar by recording either no-death or 1-credit runs. Some of those games like Battletoads and Bayou Billy will be a massive pain lol.

For sure, I can now beat toads pretty consistently, and still have fun doing it. Great game, and never gets old, especially once you learn it. I love playing it, anytime.

However, bayou billy, More like agonizing frustration, and i doubt i will ever go back to that game and do it again. At least not for a LONG time lol Fun game, but insanely frustrating if you try and go the distance.

I never played that game before. Is it any good? Might have to check it out.

Well...I don't know if I'd call it "good", but I feel like it gets a lot of undeserved hate (AVGN fans mostly).  It definately has a lot of flaws, but I found the basic game to at least be enjoyable and somewhat challenging.  The controls and hit detection are excellent, and the challenge ramps up steadily (if you can pass the cafe stage).  It's an objectively mediocre game, but I find myself playing it a lot for some reason.

Here's mine so far. For me this is just the usual:

1. Dragon Warrior - NES*** - Max level
2. Super Mario Bros. - NES* - both quests
3. Mickey Mousecapade - NES*
4. Super Mario Bros. 2 (Japan FDS) - NES* [Repro] - as Mario including extra worlds
5. The Legend of Zelda - NES* - both quests all items
6. Super Mario Bros. 2 - NES* - as Mario
7. Super Mario Bros. 3 - NES* - all levels
8. Chip N' Dale Rescue Rangers - NES* - as Chip
9. Zelda II: The Adventure of Link - NES* - regular playthrough (didn't bother with 2nd quest as it's no harder/different)
10. Yo! Noid - NES*
11. Faxanadu - NES* - all items
12. Kirby's Adventure - NES* - 100% perfect
13. Legendary Wings - NES*
14. Renegade - NES* - all 3 difficulties
15. Big Nose the Caveman - NES*
16. The Fantastic Adventures of Dizzy - NES*
17. Felix the Cat - NES*
18. The Three Stooges - NES*
19. Bucky O'Hare - NES
20. Final Fantasy - NES*** - completed game with Fighter, Thief, Black Belt and Red Mage
21. Dizzy the Adventurer - NES Aladdin
22. The Fantastic Adventures of Dizzy - NES Aladdin
23. Metroid - NES

1 star means I have a cartridge, 2 stars would mean I have the cartridge and box or cartridge and manual, and 3 stars means I have cartridge, box and manual (at least). Everything else I beat using the good old Powerpak.

In between all this I played games on a multitude of other systems this year.

I track them with backloggery and then (eventually) write about them when I get to them in my rankings.  So sortof.
