I also agree with arch_8ngel that anyone should be allowed to submit scores from emulators, otherwise it should be specifically spelled out in the rules that you can either submit scores on console or emulator but not both. I enjoy participating in these competitions, but own very few of the games. Given that it can be expensive to acquire them on ebay or at local shops without waiting for the right deal, I'll probably be emulating many of them. Allowing emulation or flash carts that support Game Genie codes requires that we trust each other to play fair, and we should either commit to that trust or change the rules to reflect it. I don't see how anyone can be said to be making a contest to look bad by doing things which are allowed by the rules of that contest. If anything that is an indictment of the contest, not the player.

Rules also state that Bimmy can ask for any kind of further proof to valid a score. We allow emulator, and it also comes with the responsibility to watch that emulator aren't abused. New players must consider that the trust system also comes with the effort to acquire such trust. It is not just a blind trust, and seriously, we don't take brainless decision about it. If an incident is noticed, there are reasons behind it, and it won't mean that we will make a show about it in the contest thread.

After a long night of trying to reach that score again on the toploader I figured why not switch it up and went emulator.

It was going perfect then BAM damned moai and spread gun turrets. Got 324250, and if emulating is discouraged while one has a physical copy disregard this score as well.

Okay, Bimmy asked me to replace him today as he is attending his grandfather's funeral, so this is the contest mod talking.

Are you going to use a fourth setup on your next score submission? Please, stick to your orginal one which was the best possible, the original console. Submitting better scores with emulated setup only raise flags on you, and you're making the whole contest look bad right now.

I'm back from everything now and I'm siding with guillavoie on this one.  Switching up the setup of the submitted scores multiple times in one week only raises red flags, so it's best if you stick with your console scores.  This goes for everyone as well.  Switching from console to emulator to anything else looks sketchy.

Apologies if switching it up a bit is making the contest look bad, that is not my intent at all.  I can also understand the red flag raising especially since I'm still new here. Seriously I can't blame you at all, if I screw up more please by all means call me on it.. So toploader only from here on out, and I have a new score with it.

319330

I almost reached my 3ds score, I might have if not for the thrice blasted moai and spreadgun turrets. I swear they hate me with a passion. Ill give it one more shot before I have to work tomorrow (today?) and thats it. I am about burned out on this game for the time being.

@guillavoie: I did think about using my nintoaster on sunday but decided against it since no one really knows what all might be in that thing, there could be a game genie built into it and you would not be able to tell.

After my half-assed score at Marble Madness, I'm aiming for the top 10 this week since I'm not great at the next couple of games. I played Life Force a lot this past summer but I haven't played it much since then. I had a decent no death run going tonight and then blew it at the Moai heads and couldn't get back on track. Not sure if I'll have time to play again before the deadline so I'm posting this now just in case I can't top it.

What we are talking about is switching back and forth between a console and emulator during one specific week.  There may be one week where a participant has to use an emulator because they don't have the game being played, and then two weeks in a row after that, they might own the game and can play on their NES.  That's not an issue at all and I don't require everyone to go out and buy every single game we play.  The problem with switching back and forth between several different setups (going from NES to emulator to Virtual Console for example) is that it starts raising red flags amongst other participants and the contest mods and organizers that shady stuff could be going on even though there is no ill intent.  I don't want this to turn into a huge ordeal, but I ask that all participants not switch back and forth between consoles and emulators in one week.

Not the 335k score I was shooting for,but close. I actually had a chance for it but I missed killing 2 moai heads. And knowing I was ahead of pace from my previous score I just played it safe. Going to be pretty tough for me to top this. This run further solidifies my belief that the theoretical max is roughly 340k for the first loop.

Edited my post with a slightly better score 263,890. I left a lot of points on the table by dying right at the end of stage 5 for the first time.

The lasers wipe the path clean before the opposite end is visible... but the regeneration cycle swipes right up from behind and kills me every time.
It seems like with the normal gun, the gap you form in the wall is perfect and the regeneration is timed to follow along at the speed of screen scrolling.

How the heck do I get through there and not lose my upgrades? What am I missing?

PS - any tips on when the final upgrade is worth using?  It appears to be some kind of shield, but doesn't appear to be permanent.

Lol, I had the same exact problem with the laser at that point too. What I do is I push the ship all the way to the front of the screen/wall once I start shooting the laser and that way you don't get clipped by the wall regenerating behind you.

Also try tapping the fire button and not mowing down huge sections.

Actually never mind. That would only be if you are flying in the middle of the screen and not following Briguy82's advice.

347,650 (Challenge Score.  DOES NOT COUNT)

(Just a reminder not to count my scores this year.)

I think that this is pretty close to a max score without getting tons of speedups.  I usually only get 2-3, otherwise I find the ship hard to control properly.  Anyway, 350K is defiintely out there, but I dunno how much higher.

Nice job on finding all of the 5,000-point bonus spots.  Does anyone besides me think that it's weird that the programmers only put the bonuses and 1ups in the first three stages?  I have never found a single thing in the last ones.  Makes the game seem incomplete somehow.

Great scores all around.  You guys are learning fast!  Keep it up!

The Tecmo Super Bowl contest is now live! As is the customary with the contests now, the Life Force contest will not end early and still ends at 11 PM NA time tonight. If you're tired of Life Force, go get your football kick with Tecmo Super Bowl

As always, you are the man. Really didn't think that kind of score was possible. I guess I missed more than I thought.

Hey Guillavoie, I almost forgot to congratulate you on Canada winning the men's gold medal in ice hockey. Too bad you probably live a thousand miles away otherwise I would challenge you to an NES ice hockey match to show you who the real champs are! You couldn't handle my skinny, skinny, medium, fat formation!

Sorry I know this doesn't pertain to Life Force, but damn I love me some NES Ice Hockey!
