yay more random insanely high scores out of nowhere!!!

how about you guys actually join us for the entire year!!

I actually quite like this format of two games for a month. I can play a couple rounds when the opportunity arises. I'll probably be playing at least one of the games every month from now on

I'm a big fan of this format too. I really only get one week a month to participate so it's the only competition to try in. I'd like to be a part of the nes competitions but it just doesn't work for me

If you're into shoot-em-ups, the leaderboard is timeless! Compete at your own pace, and play any shmups you like!

I'll be sure to drop some scores in there!!

Im only poking fun at the people that like to join 1 competition. Beat everyone and you never see them again. Dont see the pleasure in that.... Atleast it sucks some fun out of it to me. I wish people would stay and play

I'd like people to stay for the whole competition too. As long as people show up and put in a score somewhere between you and me I'll be happy

I can't really commit to play EVERY game, but I'm certainly going to play the games I like.

I get it, it's a little silly of me to only participate in games I'm good at, but I assure you the net effect is the same if I tried to participate every month. I'd be at last place in every game. For reference, see January when I tried Super Mario Kart. I assure you I'm not just popping in to say "pshh, video games are easy, you guys suck, let me just try one real quick and then go away forever." I just saw a game I like, (and actually own) and an excuse to play it. I fully recognize that SNES games aren't my forte, but Tetris and Dr. Mario are games that span lots of systems, including Game Boy, which is really my bag. This year-long competition is really neat, (I wish there were a Game Boy one) because it prevents people like me from winning, and encourages more of a broad vidya skillset (as it were). So yes, I'm totally cherry-picking, sorry if it makes it less fun. I totally get how it does. I'll withdraw my scores if it's a problem, no hard feelings.

Dr. Mario is annoyingly slow. I must not be doing combos or something.

It is pretty slow. Here's how I speed it up a little:
- If you get a pill that's all the same color, try to find 2 viruses in a row that you can slam out with it. Boom, 2 viruses gone. Avoid making 5 in a row if you don't need to. 4 is the answer.
- Try to whittle down all parts of your screen equally. If you get one side all the way down, and you still have 15 viruses on the other side, that makes the endgame really slow, as you have to start wasting pills to get the ones you need. Clearing 4 in a row where there are no viruses gives you no points and no combo bonuses.
- Look for horizontal opportunities. Especially endgame. You can rotate pills into tricky places like in Tetris.

^yeah, before I never paid attention to horizontal. That's really saved my ass a few times.

The way I see it there's Y/B, Y/R and B/R find one spot where you can place each of the three safely and stack em like that until it's clear. Once it's clear find a new safe spot. The 1 color pills are easy to find a place for, so that's an after thought. It's when you misplace one of the mixed ones that you get screwed. Also I try to keep my board relatively clean, once you're at the later half of the level and you get garbage pills, stack them in the corners with their colors, so even if you have an endless supply of garbage pills you can keep going as they clear

407,610 for Tetris/Dr Mario

Updated on first page. I am done with Dr. Mario, I'll try to get a better tetris score.

Bert, I'm not terribly far off of your scores, but I'm not sure if there's time to catch you. Nice scores

Thanks man   still a couple days left. I resign from Dr Mario. That game stresses me out. I am keeping on with Tetris to see if I can improve that score though

You can be gaving such a good tetris run and the game just fucks you. I had a solid wall of 16 high full. No gaps. Waiting on a straight piece that never came. I had like probably 30-40 no straight pieces in a row. How does that even happen. Just so much bs

Yeah Tetris is maddening. Again, I scored 197,000 last year on my first three attempts, and then spent another 50 failing to outdo that. I got 13th...

the randomizer in this version of Tetris is absolute horse shit. There are times I get the same piece 6-7 times in a row.

That being said, it doesn't hurt to burn a couple lines while you wait

Posted some new scores, for a total of 494710. I just can't get that solid, lots-of-tetrises Tetris game, but at this point I HAVE to try for the bonus point.

This is exactly where I'm at. I had an awesome game going where I hit my current top score of 191k.  I had to pause it because the game was getting "glitchy" (Supaboy battery getting low).  Of course, pausing at that speed kills a run (at least for me).  Ever since then, I've only come truly close once (188k).  I should have taken photos of every sorta-close-but-not-really attempt and made a nice photo album or collage!  This version of Tetris is definitely a snow flake, but still, it's addicting and I love it anyway xoxoxo

What's that? No love for me, Bimmy?  That's the second glitch I've had in my scores in the SNES contests. Are you guys trying to tell me to go back to the NES contests instead?!

Brock runs the SNES contests.  Looks like he missed putting you on the scoreboard.  I'm just here to play the games    That's a nice Tetris/Dr. Mario score, by the way.  I was trying to top it, but I paused both games when the speed was high and I lost my rhythm.

Looking at ninjistar's Batman Returns score, he is still in Scene 1.  He's in the second part of the level before you face the first boss of the game.
