Hey all, I saw some posts before about record collecting so I figured I try you guys out on this

Currently I'm using the following:
  • Stanton STR8-80 record player
  • M-Audio Micro Track II Recorder as my DAC
  • Recording settings: 16bit at 41k Stereo, I was recording higher 24bit at 96k but then I couldn't fit 1 LP onto a CD... so figured Id just stick with standard CD quality.
  • Mastering  fun stuff and EQ in FL studio and a bit of cleanup, track listing and cutting in Audacity
But I'm not all to sure on cleaning methods. I have this little dust brush that came with the player and I use that to clean the groves, then I use a micro fiber cloth after, and if its really a disgustingly dirty album, Ill put a touch of windex on on the cloth and go at it like that.

And for those who are interested, here's a sample of one of my transfers, also one of the coolest tracks Ive ever heard!

When you first get a record that's really dirty, I suggest washing it in your sink with soap and water.

apparently wood glue will stick to everything but the record, so it'll grab all the dirt. so smear it on, let it dry, and peel it off. look it up on the internets for more details.

I have heard that washing with liquid can a small amount of background noise on the record that doesn't go away. I have never tried though, I just use the same brush you have...

could be from mineral deposits or something from water and solidified stuff from the dirt that gets hardened with water...
Ill test it out on a record that I don't care about.

I still have a record cleaner kit at home. Basically all it is is a soapy type solution and like a felt type covered brush. It has bristles that are bent so that the ends don't touch the record, but the edges do. Hope that helps.

Retro Recordshops sell cleaning kits. I bought one awhile back. Had everything needed. You could tell the difference. I think I paid about $20 or so.

The track is called And the Angles Sing from the album Mr. Trumpet Harry James.
It has no eq or any cleanup mastering, just straight from the record

I listened to the CD version of it and its hardly up to par with the record.

Oops forgot to respond. If you sink wash...Don't get the labels wet, and a cloth or rag is fine. Nothing too abrasive. Definitely try with a dirty record you don't care about first.

I use a Disc Washer brush and a solution I made out of distilled water on rubbing alcohol, works pretty decently but nothing amazing.
