Prior to the auction, I pointed out that one bid would come in via PM. This was a necessity to the party involved, and I'm happy to report their bid is submitted now, giving others a chance to react (rather than a last-minute bid situation). Thank you for your understanding.

$410.00

I don't understand the anonymous BS....

If that person is privileged already, then why not reserve a copy for that person and make the auction for 2 carts?

Or can anyone choose to place an anonymous bid?

Nope. Not me.

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at the Let's Play Gaming Expo last night. I guess it's pretty serious.

Oh, my WTB thread is very popular. The sportos, the motorheads, geeks, sluts, bloods, wastoids, dweebies, Richard craniums - they all adore it. They think it's a righteous thread.
I'd also like to add that I've got my father's gun and a *scorching* price guide for aftermarket Nintendo games.
Between Dragon Warriors and nothing... I'll take Dragon Warriors - for any of my FT/FS/FO items.

I was hoping my initial post would be enough forewarning that 1 bid would be received this way.  It was explained to me that their anonymity was necessary based on their field of work.  My original contact from them was through my blog, and then we corresponded through email.  I really do apologize for this, and did not know what bid amount I would be dealing with ahead of time.  I know that a last-minute bid by this person would be the worst case scenario, which is why I asked them to submit their bid earlier.

If it's absolutely necessary (as in, if there are a number of people that have a strong feeling against this), I will definitely consider removing this bid.  On the other hand, if anyone feels that my forewarning, with the statement in the auction rules was fair, I'd be interested to hear that too.

Reasons I can think of: (from here on out, I will call the bidder Anon short for Anonymous)

1. Anon wants everyone to be surprised by the name he\she is picking for the game until everyone gets the cart.
2. The name Anon wants to use for the game doesn't want it associated with their NA user account.
3. Anon is moddest and doesn't want the high amount he\she bids to be tagged to Anon. Anon may not like being labeled as the person that spent $X dollars on the game.
4. Anon doesn't want people taking advantage of him\her because a seller knows he\she spent $X on this game, so Anon shouldn't be haggling a few bucks off of the game the seller is selling.
5. People on NA may personally know Anon and Anon is worried someone will rob him\her knowing Anon has a very expensive game.
6. And of course the obvious answer, Anon just likes being mysterious.

I'm sure there are many other reasons people can think of and I am more than likely wrong as to why Anon doesn't want to post their bid in the thread, but there are valid reasons out there.

I'm sure if you asked and gave a valid reason, you could be Anonymous, too. Unless...you are Anonymous your post was a smokescreen to hide your true identity!!!!

Leave the bid as is, imo. You were very clear in the original post.

I'm not calling for the removal of the bid. That's a nice chunk of change and I'm not about to "rule shame" anyone out of earing that kind of money for something you worked so hard on.

I am saying that if anonymity is offered for 1 person, it should be offered to all. That person is no more special than any other member here.

I'm sure Rizz would have done the same for anyone who requested it. Why does it matter anyway? The auction is proceeding just fine.

So this mystery bidder is Satoru Iwata. He doesn't want everyone to know he supports homebrews.

Leave it at that, and let's get back to the auction.

Thank you for the clarification.  I have messaged them about adding their name into the bidding list, which they might actually be ok with.  Because of their situation with the PM, I took the precautionary measure of not listing their username for now.  They are currently listed as Offline.

I appreciate everyone's feedback.

Guys, I'm not asking him to reveal the person's name either. I am simply stating that if anonymity is offered to 1, it should be offered to all.

That's it. No other motive. Just to have the same rules apply to all

If I had a good way to do this, then I totally would.  This is my first NA auction, and whatever I learn from this one will make the next one better.  Again, I don't know if the person needed their username hidden or not.

I appreciate the discussion Br81zad.

To be fair, one anonymous bid a few hours before the end is a red flag for shill bidding. I re-read the original post and there was no mention of one anonymous bid, large or otherwise.

I'm a big fan of the game and honestly think rizz is operating at the highest ethical standards. He just took an anonymous bid, not thinking it would look odd (post#85 in thread). I hope this will stand as a "teachable moment" for other homebrewers who do this sort of auction.

Question. You said bids over $300 have the option to buy 2. Does the second copy come out of the initial 29 or is an extra copy made? I'm guessing it comes out of the 29 so that would mean the lowest bid automatically becomes null?

The 2 copies would come from the 29 copies.  A bid for 2 copies would bump 2 people off the bottom.
