Here we go again with the NA weekly contest, and to start the year in beauty, we're going to play the classic of all classics:
Super Mario Bros.
Rules:
-1 Life Rule

- Highest Score Wins!
The contest ends Sunday, 22/01/12 at 10 PM NA time. Your user name must be in the picture for your score to be valid. The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid. No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted. Good luck everyone and have fun!
Take note that there will be no participation score requirement to earn a participation point this year. Post whatever score you achieved, and you'll earn a participation point.
This contest is the first segment of the Action/Platform Series.
As you may already know, this year the contest is split into 6 blocks where the winner of each block will earn a qualification place for a final tournament of champions that will take place at the end of the year. Each block will be composed of 6 games that represent 6 different video games genre. A specific leaderboard will be made for each video games genre, and the winner of each genre will also earn a qualification place for the tournament of champions. For more detailed information, you can check this thread: http://www.nintendoage.com/forum/...
I'm throwing here the list of games that will be played through the first block:
1st week Action/Platform Series: Super Mario Bros.
2nd week: Sports Series: R.C. Pro Am
3rd week: Arcade Series: Burger Time
4th week: Shoot 'Em Up/Shooter Series: Gradius
5th week: Beat 'Em Up Series: Double Dragon
6th week: Puzzle Series: Wrecking Crew
Rules for every games will be revealed later tonight, when Bimmy Lee will post the new leaderboard thread along with the detailed list of games for the 1st block.
Leaders:
Miss Clawful: 776,250
Philbracy: 775,650
Sconley666: 721,400
Luigi Master: 613,350
Quack: 397,550
Perfect choice for first game of the year, already did it myself, no deathed at that, but going for points with a no death run, that'll be a bit more challenging. So, with gaining points, anything open (such as turtle shell on steps trick) being the 1 life rule and timer?

Updated my score, and decided to play on my childhood NES with my childhood SMB/DH.
Score is: 832,450
In case you're wondering, I was on stage 2-2 and had 687 time left.

Great scores so far guys, hopefully I can get through trying to get a score in here without breaking too many controllers
Okay, took some time today to play some SMB, and while I consider myself pretty good at it, I never really played it for score, at least not on a 1 life rule. So far half a dozen attempts, and while I got a decent score, if I haven't been playing so sloppy I'd at least be even on the hundred thousands place as the world I was in. Going to keep trying, I know I can pull off a better score than this, but its a good start I guess.
Score upon 1st death 700,200 in World 8-2

Oh, are we to stop on the 1st quest or keep going even after beating it until a life is lost? Heck I can't even remember if score continues to rack up each successive game or not.

Okay. Got a new higher score, but interestingly died in the same exact place as my last high score on this level, falling down that hole right before that Bullet Bill cannon, fell short with my jump again, how odd being so many more difficult places to die at.
