Who remembers this launch? I was just a lad and I remember walking through the mall and seeing posters and displays with the date and the Dreamcast swirl logo. It felt like a huge deal. I wanted one so badly.

I didn’t end up getting one though. The PS2 was announced around the same time and I decided to wait.

I kinda regret it honestly. The Dreamcast felt like the last “true gamers” console.

Cheers, Dreamcast

I have heard this in the past as well, but I would argue the GameCube was. Just sucks having that piece of shit PS2 in between the two consoles' dates.

Edit: but yes, the Dreamcast is an amazing console.

This was the last console where I remember walking into the store and getting all excited when I saw the kiosk. It was like that feeling you get on Christmas morning when you go to open your presents. I remember playing Powerstone over and over on that Kiosk.

The only thing I remember about Dreamcast was my brother's friend had brought it over and they could get away with looking up gross shit on the internet.

I remember them looking up girls playing in each others shit and I puked on my brother's floor in result (I was 8 or 9).

You would most definitely be ridiculed and maybe called some derogatory names. I just got a dreamcast about 3 months ago and haven't really given it a fair shot yet. I'm going go fire up skies of Arcadia I think it's called? I heard its ok.

I remember it very clearly. Walked into Toys'r'us with my preorder slip which included a system, extra controller, vmu, sonic adventure, hydro thunder, crazy taxi, soul calibur, nfl 2k and ready to rumble. It was a glorious day!

That was a great day. I didn't end up getting my system until early 2000 when Crazy Taxi came out, that's what truly sold me

I remember my best friend in high school got it on launch and said it was way better than PS2 was gonna be. When Sega discontinued the Dreamcast all of us bought one at Gamestop for $50 (it was the black sports edition that came with NFL2k if I remember correctly), we all made fun of my buddy for it! lol

That was a fun time. I bought one on launch day along with 2 games. The only problem was that the limited run of English VMU's. Everywhere was sold out so I had to get a Japanese one. Still have and it still saves and I still can't read anything it says!

I ended up being a mostly-Nintendo kid, probably because of Nintendo Power, but I thought those VMUs were the coolest thing in the universe. I sort of still do.

I was still using my Dreamcast in one particular location as a functioning AOL Instant Messenger device in 2004/05/06 to secretly talk to friends, it was entirely text based and had none of the interface whatsoever, but it worked

I knew ONE person who had one before they were discontinued. I remember looking at it and playing one game at his house. I remember thinking the VMU idea was pretty cool, and I loved the look of the console. However, I also remember having absolutely no desire to get one over the upcoming PS2. It was just never really on my radar. Owning one now, I enjoy the system, but I have no regrets in getting a PS2 over the DC back in the day.

Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

Crazy Taxi was the shit back then, I remember playing that one for hours.

Got my dreamcast close to launch only game I picked up was Sonic Adventure though, remember having quite some fun with other titles like the mentioned Crazy Taxi, and House of the Dead 2, Beserk, Grandia, Powerstone, Giga Wing... the console was way ahead of its time, and another thing I really liked was how imports was a breeze to play with just a boot disc and pretty much hassle free.

I remember seeing it in action at a friends house with Sonic Adventure. It looked so sweet compared to anything else at the time.

RIP. Thank you bringing some of your best titles over to the Gamecube, which I did indeed have and enjoyed so much. Skies of Arcadia Legends, Sonic Asventure DX and 2 Battle, Crazy Taxi!
