what are some other great homebrew games for Atari?

Definitely try:
Doctor Who VS the Daleks (awesome Berzerk hack)
Omicron (feature dual joystick controls like Robotron)
Ladybug
DK VCS (holy moly this one is amazing)

Pulled out my Atari gear when cleaning the spare room to make way for the nursery.

I grew up playing the 2600 but apparently we had a 7800 too! Console only though... :/
Speaking of the Atari 7800, some later model 7800s had updated cartridge slots with more rounded corners which made Activision cartridges fit very tightly around the corners of the slot. I've read that there is a way to trim the corners to fix this issue. I still need to do this myself.

Have you ever played one?   The graphics will surprise you in quality.   If I didn't have the nostalgia that I do for the 7800 that would probably be my preferred system.

Nope, just too many consoles at that point. It does look cool but I don't have space for everything

Definitely been feeling the Atari craving hard lately and have been grabbing stuff. Picked up a solid little lot yesterday for a decent price. Sears Tele-Games 2600 (light sixer) with 6 games and manuals (some games I didn't have, some doubles), 2 joysticks, a Sega Genesis pad, and all the hookups. The Dark Chambers also came with the manual, but it's separate from the lot; just felt like grabbing it online. Anyway, excited to add a more classic-looking 2600 to the collection. I mainly play on my 7800, and I have a 2600 Jr. I've got my eyes on the Coleco Gemini. There's also a boxed Vader at a local store, but it's more than I want to spend. Blah.

Yeah? Good to know. Not gonna lie; was probably going to ignore it. Not a sports guy, but on the other hand...Activision.

Let me know if you need a metric ton of anything 2600; still sitting on some before I send some off to AA for donor credit.

I definitely might be interested in grabbing some stuff soon. Do you have a list or pics or something? Feel free to PM me with some deets if you're inclined, and thanks for the heads up! I'm also looking for some 5200/7800, if you have any. In the next year, I want to snag a Jaguar, so I'll have all the Atari home consoles, but I guess I'm getting beside the point, ha.

Tired of M-Network games that won't stack neatly? I made a simple adjustment that solved the problem. Cut out little rectangles from corrugated cardboard (or something of comparable thickness) and use them as spacers. Voila. They now stack perfectly.

I've been getting back into Atari over the past week or so, the 2600 jr was my first console as a kid and I had a lot of fun with games like Centipede, Skiing, Mario Bros and one of the Pac Man games (Ms Pacman I think). I remember in the early 90s walking into a game store with my parents to buy some games for it and all they had was Golf (several shelves in fact heh). We ended up going to some dingy hole in the wall and grabbing about 10 loose carts for £1 each which was pretty cool.

It's been cool learning about games like Demon Attack, River Raid and Dark Chambers. I actually managed got to stage Y on the 7800 version of Dark Chambers last night before I died of Hunger. Not bad for a first attempt I thought. Demon Attack is crazy intense and Galaxian is actually really impressive, much better than I thought it would be.

Now I'm trying to decide which way to go for a physical system. If I get a 2600 it has to be the Jr but a 7800 would be cool to have as well. Either unit would have to be an NTSC system though so I'd need to grab an AV modded unit to play on my TV. The RetroN 77 is looking surprisingly decent as well tbh.

Anybody have any experience with this thing?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/162683424...

Supposedly it works with the Atari 5200 so you can use a Genesis or 2600 controller. Sounds pretty cool if it works well

I'm sad to say that a respected member on here was unable to bring my NIB Gremlins 5200 back to life

May have been stored badly... he suspects bad chips. All traces, joints etc. were either re-done or got a clean bill of health.

Anybody able and willing to try an rom replacement on it for me? I'm tempted to just buy another (and NIB are easier to come by than loose carts) but I just want to play it ...

Look up some gameplay. The 5200 version is completely different, and seems to be a Berzerk-style game that's much truer to the movie. I'm so fricking bummed about my copy being DOA..

Shit. That does sound cool.

Here I thought the controllers were the main problem with the 5200, looks like I got more shit to worry about. I think the fact that the 5200 is such a pain in the ass is what makes it endearing to me

^ same here! I initially bought a CIB console and CIB Trackball controller. I've had to replace the PSU, perform the gold-plated button mod on a problematic controller, and replace the flip-flop chip on the board of my console thus-far. And now this damn cart. It's like a never-ending saga to get everything working, though it's as frustrating as it is satisfying (until I go to play a game and an reminded of the limitations of the analog stick, hah)

wow, I hadn't even realized what exactly that was. Dare I say worth the money, unless you instead decide spring for the "as-is" lot of Wico controllers shipping from South America...

Yeah, I do have a working controller thanks to CZroe, but I can't see it lasting forever. This would be a nice alternative, especially since I play 2600 with a Genesis controller. Theres a few games that it doesn't work for and if you use a paddle, the controls reverse, so left is right and right is left. But you can mod the paddle to work properly and it doesn't sound super hard. So even the easier option is still a pain in the ass, essentially
