It seems like there are prototypes for almost everything, what about Stadium Events? Little Samson? What about other systems like Sculpter's Cut on N64? I'm wondering just what percentage of games for each system still don't have known prototypes discovered yet. Mainly NES.

There aren't enough Xbox prototypes floating out there. Back when the system was new, I patrolled the scene for Xbox in Japan because I knew it would be niche based on how poorly received it was. A lot of games were advertised but many were never released. One of these is Runebrid, a game being made by the designer of Shining Force. It was a Japanese SRPG that never got into fruition and I could've sworn I did see pictures of a potential prototype that I can no longer find for it. True Fantasy Live Online never made it out but many of its assets were recycled for Dragon Quest 8. From Software also had several prototypes including a sequel to Idaho Potato on PS1 and a game called Gaia Blade which were shown in videos but never surfaced. I documented this in a list of unreleased JP Xbox games. Ports of Illbleed and Blue Stinger for DC also never materialized.

A lot of cartridge prototypes were repurposed to become prototypes for a particular developer's next game. This was even more prevalent by the time the N64 was current because flash carts were even easier to reprogram and PCBs were more standardized. A lot of binaries get lost when obsolete computer systems are wiped and trashed or sold. I'm actually surprised so many prototypes do exist in physical form.

You dont tend to see many N64 Prototypes being sold, its only when a developer/publisher liquidates that you see some new ones come to the table.
Nesworld has an old list of known N64 prototypes but unfortunately it hasnt been updated in quite a while.

Kinda hard to define "known" with these kinds of things. There are obviously many prototypes out there, but some might only be known to exist thanks to magazine or other press coverage. There aren't a lot of physical media archiving sites for prototypes, so many are probably known by way of an auction (and sometimes poorly listed ones), but unless someone commits the info to a public archive or something, they may as well be unknown.

Agreed with that one.  All of the prototypes and samples I've had donated to me this year were previously laying around in the homes of former developers, reviewers or other former industry people.  They were "known" to those people but not to anyone outside of there.

I also think we are still in the dark ages on this sort of thing.  People are just now truly starting to understand the importance of true archiving of anything video game related, and I'm finding it is still an uphill battle at that.  We presently have no centralized list of who has what and where it is nor enough people actively searching.

Not necessarily a list, I'm just wondering which games are completely unknown by anyone to have a prototype. Stadium Events? Little Samson? Aero Fighters? Flintstones?

There actually is a Little Samson prototype, though it doesn't seem likely to ever become publicly available.

There are a few examples of LS prototypes out there, and they've popped up on eBay in the past.  There are also a few known examples of FS2 prototypes out there as well.  I don't know of a true SE prototype, and while I don't follow SNES I do recall there being an AF prototype on eBay in the past.

I could have sworn I have seen a skate or die proto. Never mind, it was skate or die 2.

I am pretty sure that I have seen a SE proto, but I can't seem to find a link.  Can anyone?

Here is some info about Little Samson http://www.nintendoplayer.com/pro...

I remember DreamTR was trying to complete the U.S. NES Sunsoft library in prototype form, and if I remember right he got down to just missing Sky Kid, so that might be one?

But yeah, this is pretty much impossible to be definitive on. I remember NES World and The Warp Zone back in the old days attempted to document all of the known NES prototypes, but I don't think anyone has really carried the torch from there. Evan's done a pretty admirable job doing SNES stuff on SNES Central, but this is one of those things where you'd pretty much have to be a big proto collector to be motivated enough to document everything, I think.

I was recently talking with someone about prototypes they might be willing to part with and Sky Kid came up. So, it is definitely out there.
