Dan, this is the perfect opportunity for me to inquire about how to pronounce your user name. I've known you as Dan for a long time now, but I still find myself pronouncing your user name Dang-Evin. What is the proper what to pronounce it?

Thanks for asking, athough I'm not one of those guys who gets bothered by people saying my name wrong. I've heard 'em all

Most people say Lang-gev-in (telemarketers!) but my family's said it Lan-juh-vin for generations.

So I pronounce my username Dan-juh-vin.

Anyways either people usually say it Frenchie-like ("Lon-jiv-on" -- esp if they're familiar with obscure magnetism theories) which is probably the more popular pronunciation worldwide, or the telemarketer way (since most people I speak to are American). So the real explanation - my branch of the family's just weird.

Yeah I agree I like how this was done as well. I still like having an internet handle (pompeyparsons) and displaying my real name as well. Gives the sight a more personal feel as was mentioned above.

i was gonna suggest that make the rl name the sub-name

This is actually pretty cool. I like that it's possible to change if you're not into the idea of having your name out there, but that by default it's part of your little icon box.

The avatar boxes ARE starting to look pretty cluttered, though.

personnaly I'm not a huge fan, but you can just change your name to anything you want so it's no big deal.

Hmm, interesting, one moment I was posting, then the next I was looking through some more topics and noticed something different...hey, everyone's names are in their avatar boxes! Cool.

I know that a lot of you dudes know my name, and you might even call me by it, and that is totally cool. But I'd rather not be forced into familiarity. I don't like wearing those 'hi my name is' tags, either. It always used to weird me out when, like, a customer would call me by name to start our first ever conversation.

I dunno.

I really like this addition! Also, the state is a nice touch. Looks great Dain.

I wonder if the country and state lines could be combined to make that feel a little less cluttered. Like, mouseover the left-justified flag to see the name of the country, with the state following inline?  If no state name was available (not sure if that's an optional field), you could just put the country name there. Seems like this might be able to eliminate a line.

Just a thought.... these are nice additions!

It would also be super cool to have some sort of icon for the various tiers of posting... like kraid killer, etc. If there were little icons for that title you might be able to eliminate even more text over there. Plus, with the conversation about how cool the little icons are, it wouldn't hurt to give everyone a cool one by default depending on how much they've posted.

Not a problem I think I'll ever have to face.

Neat enough idea, and I like that there's the option to change it (the S stands for Sausage made me laugh a whole lot).

Hey Dain and Co.

I think the addition of our real names below our avatar/user name is a great idea. It makes it much easier and more personable to talk to one another in the threads. Once again, great idea and keep up the totally excellent work, dudes.
