Well, after 4.5 hours of desoldering frustration, plastic hacking and 2 minutes of soldering I finally got my CopyNES installed and running tonight. At first I was a little scared I may have scraped a trace off the board when I tried to leverage the CPU out of the motherboard with a screwdriver, but thankfully it worked first go when I powered it up!

Now to come to terms with all the CopyNES software...

What did you use to desolder the chip? You should first give each pin a new coat of solder so the new solder mixes with the old, then use soldering braid and a solder sucker/pen thing to remove the freshly mixed solder. Then it should just be a matter of figuring out which pins have excess solder on them and gently rocking it out. Its a lot harder when you're trying to preserve the chip

I should be getting my CopyNES in the next month or so, my Powerpak Lite is lonely without a buddy. I am very excited to get some homebrew up and running on there, hopefully I'll have Tetris finished by the time it comes so I can test it out!

Congrats again.

Yeah, just used solder braid and kept adding and removing solder - in the end I think the main issue was my soldering iron wasn't hot enough.

much easier to use the desoldering iron with the red bulb on it from radio shack, might have to add a little solder though, it usually takes me about a half hour to do one of these

I use the Desolder from RS and it works nicely. Just suck all the holes and if there is some that won't come out I add more and repeat.

What is a copy nes and where do you have to install it?  And what are you unsodering?

Here you go Jared, used for debugging games, dumping games etc. Needed to desolder the NES cpu, then solder in a socket to add this board on.
