Score updated just barely in time!

Your post isn't saying when it was last edited. What was it, 10:59? That was amazing.

I have no idea, I didn't see the edit time either.  I did that first before I bumped the thread with the update right after, so I think it is okay, but man is it close.

If that edit timestamp never shows up and the judges don't want to count my update, I'll accept it.  I'm happy to have finally no-deathed the game regardless!

Your score count Arn, no problem here buddy! Congrats on that very nice run!

This week was crazy in terms of scores. I think the number one score from the previous Contra contest would have gotten 7th.
Yeah, I think Benihana's score from 2012 falls somewhere in the bottom ranking scores. But I'm not surprised at all, the competition is way higher right now and a game like Contra must make a popular contest. No joke, the thought of jumping back in the arena is getting more and more appealing to me cause I sometimes feel like I'm missing something great going on.

Just so you guys know, when in doubts about posting your picture on time before the deadline, you can just post the score and add a 'picture coming soon' comment. As long as the score is announced before the deadline (and it matches the upcoming picture naturally), you're good.

I missed Stryphos' score. Ben actually would have made 8th this week!

It looks like I got 6th place which is fine. I just wanted to have at least 6th so that I could get enough points to move up to 4th on the leader board ahead of Richard. This will give me one more point than Richard.

You needed under 20k to even place in this contest. I guess a Contra contest being competitive is to be expected.

My target this week was to beat your 2012 score   Then I decided to go for a no death run. My next goal was to get a win this week. I had a solid plan on how to get the score but I slacked off and focused more on other things this weekend. I'm disappointed in myself for that, but it was a great week of competition!

Haha, you did way better than beating my stinking score of 2012

Winning against Bea on this needed a surreal effort.

It was, but not for you. The whole zero people that topped your score must have had you shaking so badly you nearly had a wardrobe accident!

I did manage to capture a no death run tonight. I'll post it to YouTube tomorrow. Ironically, it would have beaten my previous best score and given me the advantage over mbd

Lots of people topped the first score I posted!
But thanks to the power of math, absinthe and documented wardrobe accidents, I could put in a paltry score despite my absolutely terrible video game skills!
And I will be recording a video tonight as well. It was fun.

Bea, you're pissing on my should and telling me it's raining again! Your first score was sub 18k. Only two others this week (tables and Stryphos) made a sub 18k post. That does not qualify as "lots of people"! Try again!

Hey. Nice to see you participating again, Krunch.

Yeah I've just been really busy and especially on weekends. A few of the recent games didnt really click with me either

Next year, I think I will be more into it but I'll try to at least make tier 3 this year

Klax seems up your alley. I started out hating it, but then I became obsessed.

Yeah I was playing Klax earlier in the year, I enjoy it.  I wouldnt say I was all that good, it doesnt click with me as well as Yoshi or Dr Mario. But again just didnt really organize my week enough that I had time to put up a score.

Also @guillavoie -- it'd be awesome to see you compete again. I always thought it was bullshit that all of a sudden that the organizers became "disallowed" from participating

If I had screwed up inputting the Konami code just one more time, I would not have had enough time to post my final score update. I can't get over how close that was last night.

Great job everyone! Fun competition. I feel bad about totally glossing over the whole "Divide your score by the amount of lives left" business, but I still had fun. Hopefully I can put my reading skills to better use this week ;-)

We are happy to have you!

I always find myself starting to play the game without looking at the rules first.  You would think I'd get it by now after playing in these contests for four years.

I noticed how much trouble that gave you.  Don't think I ever once had an issue with that, is it something with the AVS?

It happened on my top loader too just about as often.  I don't know if it had to do with me hitting Start to advance the title screen right away, or I hit the buttons too fast, or I started inputting too early, etc.  More than half the time I didn't get the code inputted right.

By the way, I had no idea you were watching!  Based on my performance last night on stream, clearly I am worse at games than Bea.

I always hit start, and I input it relatively slow

Yeah I was watching and I realized right away that you'd beat me score-wise, but I tuned out with 40 minutes to go since you appeared to be falling apart

Crazy that you needed to no-death the game to even place this week

No death a game that many people outside of this small circle would consider nigh impossible to do so, at that.

Indeed, its reputation doesn't quite match up to reality.

It seemed for awhile that I'd never be able to no-death Contra, even though I have the skill to do it.  I am pretty mistake prone but usually I have enough leeway for my skill to override that.  A no-death run always takes away that leeway!
