I'm not ready to show my hand just yet on how far I've made it, but I will say on my last attempt I took damage for the first time right before the fight with Grant in Stage 2.

The boss of stage 2 takes about 3 seconds to kill if you're ready for him and have a fully-powered holy water.  When you get the holy water in stage 1, use it to attack everything, and also use it on candles. The 10th hit will give you the II, and the 10th his after that is the III powerup.  Then the first two bosses you can just spam holy water and kill them quickly.  If you get to the 3rd boss holy water is usless you need to hit him in the eye.

Main thing then would be don't die on stage 2 With the areas with medusas, it's best not to fret too much about them, if you keep moving up, they end up missing you.  And if you're going to be hit on the stairs, dont worry, you do not get knocked back when you're on steps.

Awesome, the Holy Water I had no clue about. That should help me get to Stage 3 because I can get to the boss of Stage 2 without dying now. After a solid 20 tries lol.

Going back down the tower is a lot simpler.  The rooms with the gears, you can just drop off the side and skip most platforms.  This is one where if you're praticing, I'd really recommend using save states (for praticing only!).  Save before you enter a new area, and play it.  Then if you win or lose, load it again.  Play some more.  Learn the paterns if there are any (Medusas and birds dont always have them).

But you also have to do a few "dry runs" from start to finish even before you start doing your dry runs.  Playing just parts can throw off your overall game.

Game Completed! (191,290 points)

I said earlier that I knew someone would beat the game this week.  Looks like two of us, so far!

As you can see I didn't give a single crap about low score.

Don't forget, your old, mummified friend Bim-ho-tep will be giving away a free game tonight! It will likely be a late giveaway (some time after midnight), so stay up late and get ready for that giveaway!

Well I had a bad run, didnt even bother finishing it. Lost a life I shouldn't have, walked clean off a platform trying to kill a bird, losing my bomberang I loved so well.  Then I got stuck in a block:

I figured out how to get out, hold UP and jump, but I'm just going to start over.  Does playing on this machine count as a valid emulator? You can't technically see the monitor, but I thought that rule was just to prevent screenshots and photoshop woes.

Wow! Great scores so far! Such a shame I couldn't play my PAL version. Gotta get some sleep, I may wake up when the random prize will be given away due to time zones, hopefully it will be MINE, Muahahahahaha!

Had a stupid death in the "bird room" (Billtown sparty's screenshot shows is), jumped clean off a platform trying to kill a bird who decided to wonder out of range.  The other one(s) were in blk 5 tower, once I died and lost my bomerang, I forgot how to play and had no idea how to get past the skull towers at the begining.  Ended up getting to franky with one HP left, and holy water but no multiplyer, and still kicked his butt.  Lost all my life in the water run on 6, and got killed by an ax armor; I forgot only grant can duck under axes and attack.

Edit: Just noticed I was one fleaman + axarmor away from a one-up! Not like it would have done anything other than raise my score.

I really like the Castlevania games, but I am terrible at them especially 3. Even without going for a low score, I still could only get to level 3 or 4. Game Genie was how I was able to see most of this game back in the day.
