Yeah there are some cheap hits on the final stage.

You can control whether the final boss is ducking or standing based on whether you're ducking or standing, but it's difficult to time properly.

I just beat the first form of the final boss and got around 415k.

This is one of my greatest contest performances ever. I know that I didn't point press as much as I could. Still, for a one life run, this was awesome. It would have gotten me first place in 2011.

This game's super fun. I'm doing a practice run to beat the game, on 6-3 Boss right now but for some reason the boss retreated off the screen even though he has half his health left. I have to stand here waiting for the timer to run out cause I don't want to reset until I see the full game.

Looks like Michael is the man to be beaten this week.  

Wow, I'm having a lot of fun of this game. How come I never heard of it before?

I was in the same boat not too long ago (just got back into NES gaming a few months back). The game is really fun, but I don't think it's too well known to the more casual crowd. Shame, really.

It is one of those games that has just recently jumped in price over the last few years, was underrated for a long time.

It's like any game that is average or better skyrockets because everyone thinks it's gold. 🙄

Interesting.  Since technicallly Bea did outperform you in Adventure Island, this week could be a competition between mbd and Richard for your first (real) gold

Your attendance has been spotty, so it is too hard for me to know what you're going to do with a non-shooter week.  And the only platformer on your record is SMB 3, which everyone and their sister is familiar with, so again, too many unknowns

Actually, now that I think about it, Bea might be having surgery.

That is three weeks from now. Then I will be out for at least 2 or 3 weeks, which will hurt my tournament standings.
For this week I will be too busy with work and partying to celebrate that the tumor in my womb is not cancer, so I won't even beat Michael's score.
My bet is that the win this week will be either his maiden win or Guts will get his very sought after win this year.

 

That is fair, I HAVE been quite busy.
 

I'm happy with my current score and I'm sure that it will get me a nice spot on the top 8, but it probably won't win. Whether I win depends on whether I feel like point pressing this thing some more. I did not grind points as much as I could have in that run.

Since it's one life, it is extremely annoying to spend a large amount of time point pressing and then having to reset because of making a stupid jump or whatever. This contest requires a lot of patience.

I don't know about all that man. By the end of the week everyone will be able to 1 life this game. It's insanely easy.
 

It's also easy to die from being bumped off platforms, bad jumps, etc. And the point racking is awfully tedious. It's easier when you're not playing for high score while having to reset every time you mess up.

Also how easy it is depends on how good you are at this kind of game. It's not going to be that easy for everyone.
 

I don't think that anybody made it to the final boss in the 2011 contest. My score would have gotten me first place.

Wow really? I don't think there's been a game so far this year that people didn't beat, that I can recall at least.

Huh, I'd have thought that a game with guides online would have been beaten left right and center. Shucks.

Unfortunately it's the kind of puzzle game that is pretty unforgiving even when you know the solutions and it goes on forever.
