Everyone stared at each other, scared and nervous. The Princess shuffled uncomfortably. “Well, it’s obvious some of us aren’t who we say we are.” “No shit” said one of the Toads in response. “Listen!” yelled the Princess, “We’re gonna need to work together if we want to survive this mess.” Everyone seemed in be in universal agreement to that statement, but there was still this uncomfortable feeling that hung in the air. “Okay, so no one go anywhere alone. We don’t need anyone going missing.” Everyone dispersed, but didn’t really feel comfortable enough to leave the town center. No one even wanted to talk due to the fact that everyone was pretty much anonymous. You could tell a blatant lie about yourself, and no one would even be able to tell. And still…that bad feeling continued to linger in the Princess’ gut.
A few hours later, everyone was pretty much laying around silently as they had been. A few went off in groups to try and see what they could find on the other side of the iron wall. One Toad sat up and exclaimed, “What if this is all just a big lie?” “What do you mean?” responded another. “Well, what if this is just some sick social experiment to see how we’ll react? What if there isn’t even a ‘Koopa threat’ at all?” “That’s dangerous thinking. We need to be as cautious as possible” responded the Princess. “Well hey, at least I’m thinking” responded the Toad, frustrated.
Then, a blood curdling scream broke out into the air. Everyone in the area bolted to their feet and looked at each other. “Come on, lets see what’s going on” said the Princess, as she led a group of Toads to where the screams were coming from. A few minutes later, they came across a group of the Toads who were looking up at something disgraceful. There, hanging on a wooden pole that was sticking out of the ground, was
Rooster. Or rather, it was Birdo. He was dead, a noose tied around his limp, pink body.
