I am nearly certain that mailboxes are all worth keeping to maximize score due to papers being the limiting factor. (And since you say you could hit the mailbox AND multiple shots to the door)

now if it is possible to put more than one paper in a mailbox that changes things considerable since a "salvo" of papers timed correctly could make a house worth 3-4x the normal mailbox value...

(unless you have broken the 200k barrier and just haven't shared with the group, yet)

just tried the the multi paper thing... Definitely got 2x300 plus 750, but it doesn't seem possible to hit the same mailbox once it is filled.

I haven't even beat the game yet with only three lives I'll be probably focusing on getting a score tonight.

One thing is sure, I see myself going for a 140k run, still, I'm missing tons of opportunity to score.

Multiple papers in mailboxes would change the calcul for sure. If it is not possible, I'm sure that having some consecutives red houses is way better than preserving all mailboxes. Per example, there's a lot of contiguous houses with extra papers in later days. It is better to be able to unload all the papers on 300 spot including windows than restricting papers throwed because of a mailbox and getting the extra papers with papers left.

If 250k is possible, we can't get the calcul for it by applying general considerations over random possibilities. You say that since papers are the limiting factor, mailbox are the way to go. But in the course of a real run, there's full of situation where it is not the case. It is not only about how much papers you get in total in the game, it is also about where you get them and what are your real opportunities.

A true best run possible calcul would need to take in considerations all the house patterns available in the game and all extra papers placements possible. This is why we can't get the right calcul, cause we're not enough into the details of it right now.

It's still fun to talk about though

The fact still remains that you would need to hit 100 targets per day, on average.

That is a reload on every 2nd house.

i really don't think I have seen that many total papers in the game, but I could definitely be wrong since counting papers was not previously my focus.

(and it is really too bad that this particular game has no high score runs online because this is a mystery I would really love to have an answer for)

Edit to add: found a video and counted papers.  Second half of the week has enough, but not enough extra to make up for days one and two being WAY low on papers, relatively speaking

I, too, am quite torned and intrigued by the lack of a video of a huge score on youtube. I feel a little like there's something kept in the secret of Gods.

No. They just run right over you. We need Tom in on this conversation. If anyone would know if these scores are attainable,it would be him.

After watching some more videos and counting paper stacks, assuming their placement is deterministic, I can see how with perfect planning you MIGHT be able to get to the stratosphere.

But I feel like over my many playthroughs of the game, paper placement was not, in fact, 100% consistent, so I think it is in some way dictated by your current subscribers AND day of the week.

I'm ready to believe that these 250k need an enormous luck factor that I would never be able to deal with combined with a perfection of execution.

I need to see proof of one of these epic runs before I can believe it.

I need to see proof of one of these epic runs before I can believe it.

I watched a run online where I counted 10 stacks on Thursday and at least 11 or 12 on Friday.
But you have to overcome 1-2 stacks (plus an intentional death for an extra reload) on Monday, and certainly fewer than 10 stacks on Tuesday...

Anyway, point being, I am less certain than I was previously that there aren't enough total papers.
But I am not at all certain that 100% of papers can be deployed for points when you are getting them two or three houses in a row AND some of those houses are subscribers.

I'm just going to try to improve my current score and hopefully beat this game in the process.

I don't really know this game.  Played through it a long time ago as a rental, but never played it for points.

I'll be as interested as everyone else to see what the scores turn out to be!

updated my score. Got some real good luck on Friday with about 10 or so paper drops and hit a decent amount of targets in the bonus levels.

I hate that crazy old bitch that runs after you! Why did she subscribe to the paper in the first place?

Score updated... I choked big time on this run. I should have easily hit 150k if not 160K points. I'm gonna give it another shot tonight for sure.

What day is that score from?  Sunday?

Also, which map?  I think 95% of the rounds I played were the map with 2 subscribers just after the cross street, as opposed to the map with 2 consecutive subscribers just before the cross street.

Yeah it was on Sunday, I left a ton of points on the table before I got to that point though. If I did just a better job of hitting mailboxes and finished the game I really think I would've been pretty darn close to 160K. Definitely higher than 155K, of that I'm sure. As for the map, I honestly don't remember.

The RBI Baseball contest is now live. As always, Paperboy will not end early and still runs until 11 PM NA time tonight. So, if you're up to your neck in lawsuits from newspaper subscribers with broken windows, take youself out to the ball game, buy some peanuts and Crackerjacks, and root, root, root for the home team with RBI Baseball. After all, it's the one the pros pitch.

My NES collection count: 757 games (16 to go for a full set)

Latest Purchase(s): Snow Brothers

Pretty much in line with my childhood bests. Can't get much more than this.

I could definitely hit 140K if everything went well but I couldn't seem to put it all together.  Still I'm happy with this score!

Some really great scores here everyone!
