Wow, great score Megan!

To the OP, out of pure curiosity, how do we know people aren't using a Game Genie?

Just playing devil's advocate here...but I will keep trying to take the lead! I can't even get to the third set of cars....bummer.

We'll force everyone to record their games from an external recording device. Mwahahaha! But seriously, there isn't anything we can do except rely on trust, but if anyone is found cheating (if there's a  way to prove it so) there will be consequences, no one likes a cheater.

Personally I record my games (using my webcam), so if any of my scores are in doubt I got proof, but then if I can get some crazy awesome score once I know I can again. I don't need to cheat, never have, and why do so, afterall you might look awesome to everyone else because of your totally kick ass annihilate everyone else score, but inside you'd always know that you are really a suck ass loser. And I'm totally against anyone who does cheat.

But I sure hope that people aren't going to go around calling each other out on everything every time they think a score isn't possible (I know you aren't, just asking a question for that just in case scenario) just because they can't get that high because it'll ruin the whole point of the contest (this happened one year, I almost walked out because of the bullshit), to have fun.

We go by the honor system here and hope that no one uses a game genie or the turbo feature on a turbo controller.

I'm doing terrible at this game. Any tips for level 6? Seems like if I don't hit all the turbo arrow patches I can't keep up with the rest of the field at all.  Any more advice? How is everyone getting 100,000 +? I don't get it.  Do you have to memorize every track perfectly?

Just realized collecting NINTENDO gives you lots of points. Still don't know how you guys are getting 100k scores though.

You basically just have to learn the courses and fire the shit out of your missles at some points.

I agree with Kevin, though hitting all the turbos are very helpful.

Wait a bit, after some demo plays the high score screen with reappear. Hopefully if you play again you can do better next time so you don't feel so bad about missing your chance.

I'm up to 154,873. I'm guessing that's as good as I'm going to get. Everytime I get upgraded to the race car I end up losing the next race.

Just play again and if you don't improve on your score, it will show up when you finish...as long as you don't reset the game...

An other slow week at the station. Lots of time to play games.  I now officially hate this game, but good choice for the contest.

New high score, but not by much. Got up to track 24, totally blew it, all 3 opponent cars zipped ahead of me at hyperactive speed before I could even blast any of them, but even if I did manage to get ahead of even one of them for a moment, I did not remember this track well at all, it had been far too long since I reached that point and I kept making the wrong turns. Well, guess that's it for me, don't have the ambition to keep trying for the top spot (this game is very exhausting), not this time, but it was fun.

Score upon game over 185,244

Updated score.  I don't understand how everyone gets such high scores for this game.  I have a better chance of beating I wanna be the guy with no lives lost on my first try.  I have a better chance of being struck by lighting three times than avoiding the oil spills scattered throughout the game.

Hell, everyone is getting high scores for every game I entered.  I must not be very good at games.  Why do I even compete, then?  I find no enjoyment since I'm always losing.  I only parttake to give these random games sitting around a try.  My personal best on 1-life Gradius was like 427K, but I know, oh, I KNOW, that someone will get like over 9 billion god damned points.  D:<

Well, here are the results for a 1-life Gradius contest we held in 2010.

Damn, one million? Also, is the game supposed to lag so much at the fourth level, or is the Multi-cart's ROM defective? I've also heard that some Famiclones also lag at places when a real NES doesn't, so my Generation NEX will probably work against me.

I might try to get a better score later but this is good for now. Fun game, wish I would have started earlier than today.

I got to Race 27. Computer cars are driving crazy when you restart from the first race (race 25). I think I could beat that score, but I don't think I'm going to play before the end of the contest.

I was going to attempt to beat Miss C's score to get the #1 spot, but, now it's pointless guillavoie just a punch a hole through my dreams lol. Sick score man.

My issue was if I got to race 18, I'd fall last place - I'd continue, then pass it, so I'd keep going to practice the later levels. If I passed 18, I'd screw up on 19 or 20. I got to race 34 (on 2 continues) but the AI is unforgiving on the slightest mistake, and once you fall into 4th place, it's game over.

For the record, I hate this game.  The computer cars cheat!

Managed a nice run though.  Reached Level 36.  Don't ask me how the scoreboard ended up this way, but I like it.
