It's for paid online subscribers. Lots of value for the 20 annual membership fee.

Wow, can't wait to try balloon battle on Super Mario Kart online. Is that possible?

It's probably not. It'll be missing the ZL and ZR buttons, for starters.

But dont the triggers do the same stuff as the shoulder buttons?

Yes, it's a "Free" app, like the NES app. I'm not sure how they check to see if you've paid for your sub, since I was already a subscriber. Honestly, between this and the NES, it's an exceptional deal.

They also added a feature where you can "rewind" your gameplay. I'm not sure how long it's been available, but after I discovered it in the SNES app, I hoped over to the NES app and noticed it was updated with that feature too. So, this is basically a NES/SNES Classic built into the Switch. Not a bad deal, especially since it's mobile! Now let's just hope that next year they release a N64 download pak!

I played A Link To The Past for about an hour. It works great except mine was lagging inputs I think. I would press forwards quickly to strike an enemy and my character would go way too far forward after I left go of the button and I would die. I have to try a few other controllers to see what's going on.

That is weird. I never experienced lag with the NES games and the official NES controllers for the Switch.

I honestly don't feel like I get a ton of use out of my Nintendo online account, but having access to buy that sweet controller is certainly helping alleviate the cognitive dissonance.

Yeah that's great to hear! I didn't realize it had the buttons, likely this means basically full functionality at least for 2D games. We can hope!

Wait a minute, those 20 games are free if you have an online subscription?? I thought they were just 20 SNES games coming to the switch eShop that you'd have to pay for

Yes they are free (well not free but included in your annual online fee of $20) and from what I understand this is just the beginning.  More will be released every month just like with the NES games.

Great to have access to some of the greatest snes games now. Too bad the borders cannot be switched off though, I hate it when they do that.

Well that's freaking awesome! I'm on the family plan with a couple of my buddies, so we split the $20 cost already. Nintendo really didn't have to do this. That's a lot of quality content to give out for free. I'll finally get to play demon's crest!

I see how it works. They give you Nes games for year 1. People reluctantly subscribe because they want to see what its all about.

Then just before their subscriptions expire they drop SNES. So now you feel like your getting some value, but you have to renew for the next year just to use it.

Then just before your next year expires they will probably drop N64 to lure you in for another year. Or maybe they’ll drop N64 earlier but make it part of a premium $40 subscription

This may be changing as Nintendo Japan announced that new NES/SNES titles will now appear "irregularly" rather than every month not sure if this is across the board for all regions or what.

Ah I see, so temporarily available like a lot of shows and movies on Netflix. Better play them while they're up.

Came out Wednesday night for me, been playing Breath of Fire and loving it. Also looking forward to Doom 64 coming out soon so I can play that again. Lots of good Doom coming on the Switch.

On a more serious note, I've played EarthBound today for so long, I feel all tense and mentally worn out.
