Hello everyone and welcome to round 2 of the 2012 NintendoAge Weekly Contest Tournament.  Round 1 saw some excellent matchups between our 14 participants and we are now down to the final 7 players.  All the participants know the rules, but they will be posted again here for reference and for all of NA to follow and enjoy.  The same basic rules of the weekly contests will apply for all the games played in the tournament.  Your user name must be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes or save states if playing on an emulator.  Here is the timeline for the two final rounds:

2nd round: Sunday, November 25 to Sunday, December 2 at 10 PM NA time
final round: Sunday, December 2 to Sunday, December 9 at 10 PM NA time

Round 2 is going to be elimination style once again, with the lowest seeded players matched up against the highest seeded players.  By next Sunday night, we will only have 3 competitors left for the final round.  Here is how everyone is going to matchup against each other in round 2, starting with the remaining players:

1. rdrunner
2. guillavoie
4. 2Legit28Bit
5. dev(2)
6. Megamanfan
7. WickedWonka
12. Mog

Round 2 Matchups

1. rdrunner vs. 7. WickedWonka vs. 12. Mog
2. guillavoie vs. 6. Megamanfan
4. 2Legit28Bit vs. 5. dev(2)

There is going to be one 3-way battle in round 2 in which the highest seeded player will take on the 2 lowest seeded players.  In the event of a three-way tie in this matchup, a special rule in the game I choose will be the tiebreaker.

All year I have been choosing which games everyone was going to play for the contests.  Now it's time for the participants to decide.  That's right, they are going to choose which games they want to play throughout the tournament.  The concept is simple:  Each person chooses a game they want to challenge their opponent to.  You can't challenge each other to the same game and the games must be from different genres.  There will also be a twist.  I will also be choosing a game for each matchup.  The genre of the game I choose will be a different genre from the game you and your opponent choose.  Each matchup will be a best of three matchup.  Confused?  Here's an example:

2. guillavoie chooses Arch Rivals
6. Megamanfan chooses Ninja Gaiden 2
I choose Silver Surfer

guillavoie and Megamanfan will play those 3 games against each other for the second round.  Whoever scores the highest on each game by the end of the 2nd round is the winner of that game.  Another example: guillavoie scores highest on Arch Rivals & Megamanfan scores highest on Ninja Gaiden 2 and Silver Surfer.  Megamanfan is the winner of the matchup.

The game choices aren't limited to a single matchup either (ex. if rdrunner selects Battletoads for his matchup against WickedWonka and Mog, guillavoie could also select it for his matchup against Megamanfan).  However, once you pick a game, you may not choose it in later rounds if you progress that far.  Participants should have their game choice submitted in the public contest thread on NA by Tuesday night, November 27.  Choose your game wisely.  Once you have chosen it, you may not choose another one.  If you don't choose a game by Tuesday night, I will choose one for you.  The list of games and the rules for the games being played in the tournament are located below.  New games have also been selected for round 2

NEW RULE

You may not play a game you have already played so far in the tournament.  Also, your opponent may not challenge you to a game you already played (ex. 2Legit28Bit played Ms. Pac-Man in round 1.  He may not choose the game or be challenged to the game for the rest of the tournament).

PRIZES!!!

Yes, I will be giving away prizes for the contest.  The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners of the tournament will receive a prize and one random participant who is eliminated in round 2 will receive a participation prize.  All prizes are going to be coming from retrousb.com.  Here are the prizes the participants are playing for:

1st Place: Battle Kid & Nomolos: Storming the Catsle
2nd Place: Gradius 2
3rd Place: I'm Kid Dracula
Round 1 Participation Prize for one random eliminated participant: Mario Fridge Magnets (won by dra6oon)
Round 2 Participation Prize for one random eliminated participant: Zelda Fridge Magnets

Good luck to everyone in the tournament and I hope you all have fun

I got an idea for next year.

Instead of 7 players have 8 for round 2.

14 players enter the tournament.
7 make it to round 2 in the VS mode.

After the first round the 7 players that are out of the tournament have the 5 day break to post a tetris score.(for exsample)
The player with the highest score re enters the tournament.

This way 4 people will enter the final.
Only 3 will get prices so more tension in the finals.

That's a pretty awesome idea, actually. Keeps things balanced.

Not a bad idea, but I think we'll simply find a way to have 16 players for round 1.

rdrunner, WickedWonka and Mog, I'm picking Mike Tyson's Punch-Out/Punch-Out for your fourth challenge. In the event two of you are tied (ex. a 2-2-0 outcome), whoever beats Mike Tyson or Mr. Dream the fastest will be the tiebreaker. TKO will take precedence over KO if it's possible to simply KO either combatant. Good luck

Punch out is a good choice. Now almost everyone gets to play it!

Question: can we do multiple attempts on mike tyson, one for points and another for speed (for the tiebreaker)? I have a feeling that most of us can beat him faster when not going for points.

This is where you guys will have to use some strategy.  You'll want to maximize points on Mike Tyson (or Mr. Dream) while at the same time beating him as fast as you can.  However, the fastest time beating Mike Tyson or Mr. Dream will only be used if there is a tie.
