Hello everyone and welcome to the latest installment of the Weekly Contests!  This week Chef BoyarBimmy is going to serve you up some delicious Bimmy Burgers with BurgerTime.  You want cheese on that burger?  No problem.  You want some lettuce and tomato on it?  I’ll pile it on.  You want some bacon on that burger?  Smart!  You want some pickles or a fried egg?  Well…that’s not going to happen.  I forgot to tell you that while you’re building these monstrous burgers, the pickles and fried eggs will be out to kill one thing…YOU!  That’s right, you’re gonna have to dodge these baddies while you’re busy in the kitchen.  And that’s not all!  You’re also gonna have to outrun some killer hot dogs to get the job done.  Oh, where’s Jerbilly when you need him?  You do have one weapon to defend yourself against all of this evil food…pepper.  That’s right, if one of those crazy baddies gets too close, just shoot him with a peppery load…right in the face!  Just don’t go too crazy with the pepper or you’ll run out and then you’ll be in danger of being the next main course.  Well, it’s time to get back to making some more Bimmy Burgers.  Here are the rules:
 
 

• 1 player only
• Play until Game Over
• No looping of the game allowed
• Take your picture on the Title Screen if you don’t loop the game back to stage 1
• If you loop the game back to stage 1, you must stop playing and take your picture.  This will prove you have beaten the game. There are 6 stages, so once you get to stage 7 (7 burgers on the left side), you stop.  Anyone who plays any of the game after the first loop will have their score disqualified.
• Highest score wins
• GENRE: Arcade

 
 
The contest ends Sunday, 8/9/15 at 11 PM NA time.  Your user name MUST be written or typed on a piece of paper and be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  No screenshots by hitting "print screen" on a computer will be allowed.  You must take a picture of your computer monitor.  There may be instances where this will be acceptable, but it will be at the discretion of myself and the contest organizers.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, slow motion functions, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will NOT be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun

One of the first games on had on the ol' GameBoy, BurgerTime Deluxe.  The NES version is easier than I remember the GB game being.

 

I have no idea what I'm doing, at all. Hoping a YouTube video clears it up for me...

The best way to score points is to let an enemy be standing on a burger piece when you walk across it.  Not only does it drop the piece down several levels, but you can rack up the points if you can get two or more enemies on the piece at one time.  The pepper helps to stun the enemies temporarily to help you get past them or get out of a jam.  I try to be conservative with the pepper so that if I accidentally corner myself somewhere, I can blast the enemies and get away without losing a life.

What sucks about Burgertime is that you have to be exact, getting on and off the ladders. There's nothing worse than being a pixel off and pushing up in front of a ladder and not moving as a wiener eats you.

I thought something was wrong with my controller. It would help if your chef would turn sideways or something to let you know when you are lined up with the platform instead of just having to guess.

Just to make this a bit clearer for anyone not familiar with the game, there are six stages in a loop, so technically stage 7 is where the second loop begins. You can tell what stage you are on my how many cheeseburgers are in the upper left corner of the screen.

I think I ended up with this exact score when I played last night.

I played Burgertime in the arcade quite a bit a a kid, but it's been so long ago, I'm not really sure how the NES version stacks up. I got a full loop on the board, but from the looks of it, my scoring needs work.

 

This is definitely an interesting game. I have to ways to go to get to a point where I think I'd be top-10 safe with this one! Burger patties, lettuce, and bread? Now I'm hungry...

Playing this game reminded me that President Ronnie never took me out for that burger after I saved him from those ninjas...

He offered to take me out for a burger and never followed up on it. I guess Reaganomics called for cheeseburger related cutbacks.
