According to this article, SMW was originally intended for NES, and goes on to state a beta is out there! Is this true? link

It's scarce, but there's famicom pirates with the first few worlds of SMW. I think it goes up to Vanilla Dome? Saw discussion about this like a year ago at nesworld.

I have the rom of it but haven't played far enough into it to find out anything about it. The NES version is alright I guess.

When I saw the topic I immediately thought of the famicom pirate cartridge too. The article claims that Miyamoto's team originally started programming this on the NES, and then converted to the SNES later. Can anybody confirm this?

I played through the rom of this a couple of years ago. There are only about 12 or so levels and then it just ends... no Bowser fight or anything. It's quite amusing though just to see the familiar SMW levels done 8 bit.
