Damn!

I guess their is just something about Dr. Mario that gets the Old Guard here at Nintendoage to take their guns out.
If it weren't for KrakenSoup representing the New Crew at #4, The New Crew (2012-present) would be getting our asses handed to us this week.

erizisto and myself are currently hanging in there, but I wonder if the Old Guard will sweep the Top 10 by the end of the week?

In any event... VERY nice score A.Thrower.  I heard you and GameboyRicky had a really great-to-watch head to head battle once too.
Now at #3 :-) But yes proud to be part of NA's New Crew. Puzzle games tend to be my forte. I'm pretty much a goner when it comes to any other type of game...except Diddy Kong Racing :-)

Thanks for your kind words Commander Santa. And yes, 2 years ago Gameboy Ricky and I played at campout...he warned me he was "really good," but I had no idea how good lol!

EVERYONE: Please check the updated leaderboards on the main High Score Contest thread EACH WEEK to make sure that I haven't accidentally double-entered your username (easiest thing to check is to skim down the main leaderboard)

With this many contestants it is a lot of trouble to back-check spellings on every username.

Problems are extremely simple to fix and update, just hard for someone other than an individual user to spot.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who takes the time to help host this. Thank you for making an event for all of us to look forward to and enjoy. I appreciate it greatly. I will do my best to double check the leaderboards if this is a way I can contribute. thanks to all the great competitors too 👍👏

The best thing people can do is to simply skim the main leaderboard each week for THEIR OWN NAME to make sure there aren't any double-entries.

Santa tries his best, I'm sure, to be consistent, but over the course of last year I know Guillavoie didn't always have 100% consistent use of spaces versus dashes versus underscores with some people's names.  And there is the always the risk of me transcribing a spelling related typo, as well.

(the string of numbers at the end of Vectrex's name are a great example of something that often gets miskeyed in the high score tables, in turn generating multiple entries)

Sounds great. I sure will do my best to help! Thanks again😄 ya

Looks like I'm about to get bumped from the top ten again. Played several games tonight but never cracked 200k on any of them. I'm just not very good at setting up and hitting the big combos. Tried to set up several but I either didn't get it color scheme I needed or screwed up and didn't flip the pill color to the correct placement or some other dumb mistake.

I'll keep at it,because that's what I do,but I don't expect my score to get much higher if at all. I'll have to spend more time with this at a later date.

I keep making mistakes on or around level 15 - 18. I remember as a kid getting into the mid-to-high 20's. I need to keep practicing! lol. I'm hoping to post a top 10 score, but we'll see if I can pull it off

Played last night again. Made 1 wrong move on level 12 and chaos broke loose. About righted the ship a couple of times, then the pills started coming way too fast to even flip twice.

Replayed at 12 and made to 16 or 17 (can't remember) before the little one woke up and I had to fulfill made daddy duties. I know level 20+ is possible for me as I used to play those levels all the time as a kid. Hope to give it a couple more tries this week. This may be my lone chance to make a top 10 this year. lol

Update 2/21

298,000

Slightly improved my score.  If I hadn't been so impatient with the early levels this score could be above 300,000.

I'm getting better at setting up the combos in this game. I had back to back 200k scores,my last being exactly 3k shy of my high, but still can't top it. Level 19 has defeated me every time. You have zero margin for error starting off and have yet to be error free. Right now level 19 is simply above my skill level.

is an example of how you can chain a good score bonus early on in a run, hope it can be of use to someone.

Level 19 - 226,400

Well I'm eating crow. The practice I got during the winter tournament didn't help me at all.  Level 19 is still quite the road block.

^You're telling me. After I died on my last run last night,I practiced on level 19 to see if I could clear it. I think the best could do was knock out 7 viruses.

19 is really a huge pain. At the beginning of level 19 (and beyond) the majority of viruses are within 3 half capsules of reaching the top of the vial, so if you place a wrong color on one of these viruses you run out of room to clear the virus from the top and are forced to work from the bottom or sideways. That's usually when the panic sets in and the whole level goes to crap.

With less than 24 hours remaining to submit a score this week for Dr. Mario, here is your weekly contest update.

First... The stats

36 - contestants have  unofficially submitted scores this week

26 - people have topped 100,000 points

16 - players have topped the 200,000 point mark

5 - Dr. Mario experts have posted a score over 300,000!

Current Top 3 Scorers
1. GameboyRicky:   1,465,400
2. A.Thrower:            507,200
3. KrakenSoup:          345,200

NEWS...

GameboyRicky Throws his Hat in the Ring this Week with a World Class Score

NA Dr. Mario Mastermind GameboyRicky showed up for Week 3 of this Season and posted the second highest score for Dr. Mario in recorded history (medium speed).
GameboyRicky's score of 1,465,400 was second only to the score set back in 2011 on TwinGalaxies.com by TG user Will P Nichols who scored 2,010,400.
What's even more impressive is that on the TG record point run at the medium speed - Nichols was allowed to start on any level he chose.
GameboyRicky (for the purposes of this contest) had to start at Level 0.
Congrats to him on the mind boggling accomplishment this week.

Old Guard vs. New School heats up for Dr. Mario

For whatever the reason, The Old Guard (members who joined between 2006-2011) here at Nintendoage seem to have a special place in their hearts for Dr. Mario.
This writer has had the pleasure of meeting many members in person. Tales of GameboyRicky going toe-to-toe with A.Thrower in front of a live audience were told to me many times. Old Timers also seemed to refer to their skill at this week's game as a "secret handshake" of sorts. There is definitely a sense of pride within the Old Guard to defend the sanctity of Dr. Mario.
It looked bleak in the early going for the New School with even the crafty old box maker Uncle Tusk making his mark in the top ten to keep the youngisters at bay, but the New School (2012-present) is being represented in the top three by Class of 2014 Member KrakenSoup. K-Soup posted an impressive score of 345,200 to juuuuuust nudge the battle-tested Old Guard member Krunch into 4th place.

Submissions have slowed to a crawl over the past 2 days, but here are some "Old Guard vs. New School" stats to chew on...

Old Guard
13 - Submitted Scores this week
6 - Current Top Ten spots held

New School
23 - Submitted Scores this week
4 - Current Top Ten spots held

Breakdown of scores submitted by Class (current top ten scores in parenthesis)
2006 - 0
2007 - 1 (1)
2008 - 1 (1)
2009 - 1 (1)
2010 - 3 (2)
2011 - 7 (1)
2012 - 5 (2)
2013 - 10 (1)
2014 - 8 (1)
2015 - 0

Time still remains on the clock and some notable Dr. Mario experts from the Old Guard have not yet submitted scores... dra600n (2010), Thundercat08 (2011).
Maybe even arch_8ngel (2007) will make an appearance?

New Schooler khog143 (2012) was a big time Dr. Mario scorer in last season's playoffs. He's been under the weather, but might be the New School's last hope  in climbing into the top 10 with a score this week.

What will the final top 10 "Old Guard vs. New School" be?
...we'll find out in approximately 23 hours!

The Top 10 Sees Lots of New Faces This Week

Perhaps it was because somebody pulled the fire alarm at the NA old folks home, but this week' s top ten currently features 9 out of 10 new faces that have not yet scored multiple points this season. The lone repeater as of this writing is Commander Santa currently sitting precariously in 7th place (hooray).
This looks to certainly turn the season standings on their heads as many newcomers will be shooting up the point ladder for a spot in the playoffs at the end of the season.
Every point will count this year. Participation points seem like they'll be more important than ever before!
Who will have the stamina to make it through what is shaping up to be the most brutal season yet?

Stay tuned...
