GameboyRicky Throws his Hat in the Ring this Week with a World Class Score
NA Dr. Mario Mastermind GameboyRicky showed up for Week 3 of this Season and posted the second highest score for Dr. Mario in recorded history (medium speed).
GameboyRicky's score of 1,465,400 was second only to the score set back in 2011 on TwinGalaxies.com by TG user Will P Nichols who scored 2,010,400.
What's even more impressive is that on the TG record point run at the medium speed - Nichols was allowed to start on any level he chose.
GameboyRicky (for the purposes of this contest) had to start at Level 0.
Congrats to him on the mind boggling accomplishment this week.
Old Guard vs. New School heats up for Dr. Mario
For whatever the reason, The Old Guard (members who joined between 2006-2011) here at Nintendoage seem to have a special place in their hearts for Dr. Mario.
This writer has had the pleasure of meeting many members in person. Tales of GameboyRicky going toe-to-toe with A.Thrower in front of a live audience were told to me many times. Old Timers also seemed to refer to their skill at this week's game as a "secret handshake" of sorts. There is definitely a sense of pride within the Old Guard to defend the sanctity of Dr. Mario.
It looked bleak in the early going for the New School with even the crafty old box maker Uncle Tusk making his mark in the top ten to keep the youngisters at bay, but the New School (2012-present) is being represented in the top three by Class of 2014 Member KrakenSoup. K-Soup posted an impressive score of 345,200 to juuuuuust nudge the battle-tested Old Guard member Krunch into 4th place.

Time still remains on the clock and some notable Dr. Mario experts from the Old Guard have not yet submitted scores... dra600n (2010), Thundercat08 (2011).
Maybe even arch_8ngel (2007) will make an appearance?
New Schooler khog143 (2012) was a big time Dr. Mario scorer in last season's playoffs. He's been under the weather, but might be the New School's last hope in climbing into the top 10 with a score this week.
What will the final top 10 "Old Guard vs. New School" be?
...we'll find out in approximately 23 hours!
The Top 10 Sees Lots of New Faces This Week
Perhaps it was because somebody pulled the fire alarm at the NA old folks home, but this week' s top ten currently features 9 out of 10 new faces that have not yet scored multiple points this season. The lone repeater as of this writing is Commander Santa currently sitting precariously in 7th place (hooray).
This looks to certainly turn the season standings on their heads as many newcomers will be shooting up the point ladder for a spot in the playoffs at the end of the season.
Every point will count this year. Participation points seem like they'll be more important than ever before!
Who will have the stamina to make it through what is shaping up to be the most brutal season yet?
Stay tuned...
