Just buy an external upscaler for your other consoles.

At first I will be selling as just completed top loaders.  It will work on the lunch box or Famicoms, but needs a different board to get the connectors to the correct spot on the case.  Haven't decided about selling just the boards.  People who can't solder but think they can turn into customer service nightmares...

Prettly please sell some boards! Just got a top loader for my birthday and the dudes over at video games new york say they would install the board into my nes for 25$.

I'll gladfully send a toaster to you, when you're ready! Any ideas on the cost of installing a board on a toaster?

I just bought a top loader for no other reason but so that I use this mod the moment it's released.

A couple of questions, though:

Does the HD cable also carry the audio? And will the digital output allow games that use the Nintendo Zapper (Duck Hunt, Hogan's Alley) to be completely playable on HDTVs? Or is that just not happening?

$25 is a hell of a deal! Especially for something he don't even know what it looks like or how it installs

Unfortunately no audio on HDMI (yet). That is why there is a second jack. I actually find the sepreate audio very useful, super simple to hook it to an external receiver.

And no zapper. Would need a new zapper or new zapper games to make it work on non CRT TVs.

Apparently, the dude on the phone at Video Games New York said they were talking with retrousb about selling the boards and/or the boards with the systems at their store in NYC! Good for me since I live here

The dude on the phone has never talked to me AFAIK the email support guy hasn't talked to anyone either.

Unfortunately Zapper will never happen on anything but standard low def CRT without massive changes like rewriting every Zapper game or building a video capture/analyzing box inside the Zapper and a Wii style positioning system.

Thats weird! Maybe it was just wishful thinking on their part. In any case, that would totally rule! My girlfriend will inevitably make me feel guilty if I have to buy one of the HDMI NES's being that she just got me a top loader for my birthday

Damn...I guess I'll just have to play Duck Hunt on the CRT in our bedroom.

"Honey?  What are you doing?"

"Erm...nothing..."

"I thought I told you - no massacring waterfowl in bed."

"Awwwww......"

This is absolutely incredible. I am a big fan of your work, bunnyboy. And this just blew my mind completely. I've been wanting to rgb mod my av famicom for a long time now. But I couldn't bring myself to buy the ppu, the f-labo kit, and commission someone to install it. This is a much much nicer solution!

Would it still be possible to audio mod the console to improve the audio mixing, and still add an on/off toggle switch?

Also, will this work without problems on an AV famicom?  I prefer the AV famicom over the US top loader.  Hopefully it works =)

New collector.  Interested in 8-16bit generation.  Nes, SMS, SNES, Genesis/32x/cd, tg-16/cd.

Main interest is NES.  Only at 90games,  but plan to improve the collection!!!  Please shoot me a line if you sell NES lots or know of any!

Can't believe I only caught this now! Good for you, Brian! Follow your dreams!

I'm sure the hdmi doesn't carry audio because it would require a digital encoder that wouldn't really improve anything. And most TVs and receivers have the option to grab audio from an analog source from at least one hdmi input.

No hdcp - that's generated from the source, not the receiver/TV. As in, DVD/BD player checks what's on the other end to make sure it's not legitimate hardware and not copying anything. The hdmi nes wouldn't care. It'd be like hooking up a laptop to your receiver/TV via hdmi. (at least until you start windows media player and watch a movie. )

I wonder what the cost will be on these hdmi toploaders....

My only request for the HDMI NES:

Please allow an ulfiltered sharp graphics option. I don't like scanlines, bilinear filtering, mimicing bad picture quality, etc. I just want sharp, square, unmolested pixels.

Wow, it's my first time poking my nose on the site in a while and I come in to some very sad news.

Whenever your site had a repro on it I wanted, I didn't care how much more it was than to get one made here on the forum or elsewhere. Buying from RetroZone meant something special, a quality product. Yeah, the pricing isn't attractive in comparison (I only bought once or twice a year), but I always felt it worth it. Now I've missed out on Airball and Gradius II, possibly permanently! Boo. I am happy I got what I did from you though (Mr. Gimmick will stay close to my heart). If they ever come back, I'll keep buying them (and I can suggest some too, like Devil World, which could be a cheaper one to produce ala Donkey Kong Cement Factory).

But there is some good news too, so I hope you the best with your future work on the NES, you clearly have a passion for the system and I love that. Whatever HDMI NES is sounds amazing; and it's something I'd probably throw cash at VERY quickly, instead of waiting around to justify spending the extra dough!

Because they apply those stickers to overlap the picture. Kind of like the yellow power savings stick in the top left.

Good eye! It's the other way around, Luke. What's on the screen (inside the TV) is in front of the sticker that should otherwise be covering that bit of screen.
