Hey yo!

I'm hoping some one can help me out with some good advice. I'm currently looking for what would be the best tv for all my systems from NES up until PS2/DC. I currently have a Sony 1996 36 inch tube tv that I use two spliters on for six systems (PS1 oldest system set up for that tv).

From what I gathered flat screens are the best, but I want it to only be 4:3 not 16:9 or 4:3 with black bars. Are Sony Wega's the best? I thought I got lucky in my area with a Sony KD-36XS955 on Craigslist but it's a little too advance for the old systems.

What's the max size I should look at? 36? 32?

Any help would be great and make and model numbers.

Thanks again,

Vamp

There's a lot of threads about this already if you want more info it, but Trinitrons are extremely popular for their quality. As for size, anything you have room for really. I have a 28" and it's heavy as hell.

Your Sony from 1996 is probably perfect; newer models may have component video input which could be useful if you want the best quality, but you would also have to mod your consoles. Other than that, it's really a matter of preference flat vs curved. Curved CRT is more "authentic" for older consoles.

Where I live, CRTs are free on Kijiji/Craigslist, even Sony TVs.

Best sony would be a PVM/BVM as they can do rgb and some do component, also the NEC XM29 is nice as it do can rgb/vga.

If your on a budget get a SD sony trinitron with component.

I've said it time and time again but I'm really happy with my 29'' Trinitron, I think it's a fantastic TV for retro gaming

I did some research on this and what I have come up with is that the Sony Trinitron KV-27FV310 is the best 4:3 CRT TV ever made. It also comes in 32" 36"

I managed to pickup a mint 27" off Kijiji/Craiglist for free. So keep a lookout for it as it comes up once in a while and people just throw them out.

Every Sony Trinitrons I found showed color flaws, image distortion, etc. I couldn't care less if those were exceptions, it was just time wasting to look for a Sony in good working conditions, so I forgot about it and found a beautiful 28" Flat Screen Samsung(the one in the pics) made in 2006.
Although I recently found someone selling a 36" beast Sony Trinitron and I'm tempted to go check it out

The one I got for free has too much red, and nothing that can be fixed in the service menu or regular menu. So I kept my Philips and the Trinitron is my backup, waiting under my staircase.

But like I mentioned above, any modern CRT made by a reputable brand should be excellent, as the Trinitron patents expired in 1996 I believe, so anything built after that would use the same technology. Just avoid cheap brands, it's not like the good brands are more expensive these days.

Just picked up an awesome KV-HS510 for $7.97!

This is one of their awesome HD SFP Wega HS Trinitron tubes. It probably will not work with Zapper/R.O.B. but it's the 4:3 equivalent of my awesome 16:9 KV-XBR910. It's perfect!

My vote is going for the 36" Zenith B36B41ZF manufactured in June of 2000. I got this TV from my brother about 6 years ago and I have always loved it for gaming. The perfect gaming tv. Anything with a flat screen just dont look right for NES,SNES,GENESIS... to me. He bought it brand new back in 2000 and it was a "Cadalliac" back then. All the flat tube TVs were just starting to come out and this TV was still the curved style and it was packed full of features like "Channel Surfing" ya thats right, so badass. Obviously this is just my opinion, I have a flat screen trinitron 32" and I do not care for it at all for retro gaming.

I have an old 27inch Philips Magnovox. Nothing special really. Bought it with my first paycheck when I was 14 and it still works! Have a 58inch Samsung Plasma in the living room for my HD gaming. I'd say, if you come across some just test em out and see what looks best to you.

Found a Sony Trinitron 32 KV-32FS12 made in February 2001 on Craigslist for free. Picked it up and it looks and sounds better than my 36 one from 97.
