Hello everyone and welcome to the latest installment of the Weekly Contests!  This week's game is going to be Operation Wolf.  Here are the rules:

  • Use of the Zapper is forbidden.  You must play the game using a controller.
  • Choose whichever gunsight speed you want.
  • Play until you die, run out of ammunition, or fail to rescue any prisoners.  The screen will begin to change color when this happens.  Take your picture quickly at this point.  It is recommended you secure your score as you go along to avoid losing it.
  • No continuing allowed
  • One loop only.  If you beat the game and rescue at least one prisoner, take your picture when it loops back to the first stage.
  • Highest score wins
  • Participation: 30,000
  • GENRE: Shooter/Shoot 'Em Up

The contest ends Sunday, 6/17/18 at 11 PM NA time.  Your user name MUST be written or typed on a piece of paper and be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  No screenshots by hitting "print screen" on a computer will be allowed.  You must take a picture of your computer monitor.  There may be instances where this will be acceptable, but it will be at the discretion of myself and the contest organizers.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, slow motion functions, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will NOT be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun

I recommend setting speed to slowest. Watch your ammo and your health meter. Don't even let yourself get a game over.

This is a great pick, guys. It's straightforward, challenging and fun. The scoring system actually isn't broken. I'm surprised that it hadn't come up before in the contests.

What were they thinking with the crosshair speed? Even the slowest setting is faster than it needs to be. I guess the game would be too easy if it had a descent crosshair.

Slowest speed is "Fast" and medium is "Way Too Fast."

That's pretty good. I've only made it to stage 4. There aren't that many stages though.

I tried for a few hours last night and couldn't beat this freaking game. The last two levels are so hard. If you let any prisoners die on level 5 then just consider it a game over. Either that or you start level 6 with such low health that it's impossible.

I don't want to post an updated score until I beat the game.

I still can't believe that arn beat this on his first try. Really??

EDIT: All of those damn helicopters on the last two stages are a pain in the ass. I don't know if I can beat this.

Since you've beaten the game with both, is it easier with the controller or the zapper? It seems that you prefer the zapper.

Zapper is better for this game.  I can do quicker, more precise movements with the zapper than I can with the controller.  The levels are pretty short so fatigue is not really an issue.

Well, I doubt that I'll be beating it this week. It gets too hectic on the last two stages dealing with the huge onslaught of helicopters in addition to protecting the prisoners. I run out of grenades trying to quickly take out the helicopters and then I'm screwed.

I see that scores are going to be close for everybody who beats the game and rescues all the prisoners.

Maybe looping should have been allowed because it's supposed to get more difficult with subsequent loops.

beside saving the hostages the other impactful score variation is getting the enemy has located you screen that has the 3 helicopters plus soldiers the other one only has soldiers not sure what determines it but i played about 5 times and that screen was the difference i found between 331,XXX and 336,XXX

BTW, welcome back to the contests. You're probably the first and only person in history to get 18 perfects in Palamedes. Thanks for not bumping me to second place in Trojan.

Posting two scores cause I'm not sure if the first one is legit, in the top picture I guess I ran out of ammo and wasnt able to shoot anymore and that ends my run?   And the bottom picture is earlier on in the run just securing my score, I posted it in case the first one isnt okay, and I dont haveanother chance at being at a computer this weekend.

Either score would be legit. You just have to secure your score before game over and it quickly disappears.
