Anyone want to guess at how much the SMB2 proto goes for? My thinking is that it will easily hit $500+. It's currently at $200. I'm guessing any game collector who sees it pretty much has the same reaction- 'OMG I NEED THIS!!!!!!I WANT!I WANT!I WANT!'

Well it ended up selling for $470 USD after shipping it sold for just about $500. If any member on NA bought it please post a thread about what the SMB2 proto is like and if there's any differences from the original.

Wow, these sold for a lot less than I expected. I'm interested to see if there are any differences present.

I'm a little surprised that SM2 sold for more than the 3-1 as it's at least the third copy that's out there.

Yep, agreed.. I thought they'd go for a bit more, but what the heck do I know. But yeah I would really love to see what if any kind of differneces there are with these games.

Proof that the Christmas season may be a bad time to sell high priced items? I'm not sure, but I would have thought these to be more expensive as well.

I know that the other SM2 prototypes that have been found have had differences, so I think it's a likely possibility that this one will as well.  Like Dream mentioned earlier, the 3-1 will most likely be the same with maybe the exception of an early menu or something similar.

Oh, there's no doubt that was a factor.  I just bought a Magician prototype at open auction for just over $200.  Not only that, but it was sold on a Euro eBay site, and I thought the price was completely fair.  The fact that the 3-1 sold for under $400 is astounding when you compare it to the value of lesser prototypes.  Crazy stuff I tell you.

The SMB2 makes more sense that it sold for a reasonable price.  No one on the planet pays more for first party Nintendo prototypes than Van Halen, and I know he already has one.  I wonder if he already had a 3-1 and just stayed quite about it.

Here is an old article where Van Halen shows off many of the differences in his SMB 2 proto:

Cool stuff for sure.  Also, as others have said, I can't believe how low these went and I'm surprised that SMB 2 went for more than the 3-1 when there are 3 known copies of the first and one known copy of the latter.

The auction did not end without bids, it was ended early.  The seller caught wind of the value and relisted them individually.  You didn't miss out on anything, I can assure you.

Naw, he pulled the auction.  Those games set off about a million saved searchers for people I'm sure.

Edit:  Beat to it!
