2016 WEEK 3 SANTA WEEKLY NEWS UPDATE!!! - KUNG FU
******************************************************************************************************************

Holy cow - what a week! If you are a fan of high scores and trash talk then this has been the best time ever to tune into these contests.
Rivalries established during Tetris are burning white hot. We've had public challanges, home invasions and bionic elbows everywhere.
I'm not sure much else can happen as Kung Fu has seen it's last sunset for 2016... but I've been wrong before.
Less than 24 hours remain, but for now... let's get on to those weekly highlights!

******************************************************************************************************************
LONGTIME NA LURKER "CLEURE" DROPS A LATE BOMB LAST WEEK TO STEAL TETRIS CROWN

Quiet Member makes a huge splash to take down 2 top Tetris Masters with staggering score

Just before last weeks printing, NA member cleure shocked the world by posting the gargantuan score of 636,960 in the NA contests to overtake Nintendoage
puzzle masters Uncle Tusk and GameboyRicky. The Tusker and Ricky had both posted scores that were head and shoulders above the competition. Contestants
had tried all week just to get into the same universe as these two - to no avail.
What makes cleure's score submission even more amazing is that they had been a member of NA since August 2, 2013 AND HAD ONLY 1 POST UNDER THEIR BELT UNTIL THAT TIME!
Cleure broke their years of silence with a mighty roar!
Congrats to cleure - and we hope to see more contest submissions from them as this season rolls along.

MILLIONAIRE'S PENTHOUSE FOR THE KUNG FU ELITE

Only 4 Contest Participants dine on Caviar and Champagne after repeatedly kicking Mr. X's ass

As Kung Fu nears to a close, 4 players sit above the rest of us all topping scores of 1 million points.
The Millionaire's Club is something we all hope to achieve when possible and the four that made it into this exclusive club this week, all got there through different means.
Let's take a look at their current scores and how they got there...

skinnygrinny (1,035,940) - As mentioned earlier, skinny is the contest's grinder. He posted a score earlier in the week that landed him in the middle of the pack.
In typical skinny fashion, his score rose steadily throughout the week and he now finds himself in elite company.

bearcat_doug (1,084,560) - Although Doug's scores can no longer net him season points, his competitiveness drives him to continually jump back into the fray.
Doug's MO usually involves posting a big intial score - then makes tiny improvements when he has time throughout the week. His score would be good for 3rd on the leaderboard this week.

TWarwick07 (1,177,620) - After posting a warm-up score, Tom dropped the hammer on the rest of the competition by rolling the scoreboard in Kung Fu and taking his place at the top of the heap
in this week's Fatal-4-Way (see next story below). Tom is often among the top scorers each week and when a game comes along he excess at - you'll normally see him in the Top 3.

dra600n (1,190,170) - Sitting at the head of the dinner table in the Millionaire's Penthouse currently is dra600n. When he is not running the Second Dimension Research & Technology Group, GMing a round of Werewolf
here on NA, or solving Connecticut's computer problems - Adam is posting absolute monster scores in NA's weekly contests. He doesn't post every week, but when he does his entries are almost always near the top of the charts.

There may still be room for other contest participants in the prestiegious Millionaire's Penthouse, but there is only mere hours left for others to punch their ticket.
Are you good enough to get invited too?

KUNG FU FATAL 4 WAY PROVIDES TOP OF THE LINE E-SPORTS ENTERTAINMENT

4 Men agree to publically pummel each other this week - 1 Man remains in the shadows

Kung Fu started up last Sunday with some good ol' fashioned finger pointing between longtime rivals bearcat_doug and Shane to see who could be the best at defeating Mr. X.
Just as their words started heating up skinnygrinny and TWarwick07 ripped their shirts off and started chest bumping in the ring as well.
The four men then made a public pac to duel publically in a 4-way winner take all match for pride.

TWarwick07 took on the persona of WWF star "Dusty Rhodes" (and later Midnight Rider) and has been holding the belt for most of the week. He's been mercilessly dropping bionic elbows on the compitition almost daily.

bearcat_doug as always has been representing himself as Shawn Michaels. Doug held the Fatal-4-way's belt in his grasp for a brief period of time - marking his window of success with a "YOU SUCK" directed at the other
4-way participants. He currently sits at 2nd place in this grudge match. Perhaps he can summon Marty Janetty to get him over the edge?

skinnygrinny was the last man to jump into the 4-way. He is represented by Mankind this week. Socko the puppet has allowed him to get into the Millionaire's Penthouse along with Tom and Doug. He's within striking distance of a win.
Will the other competitiors get a sock in their mouths?

Shane has been shrouded in secret throughout the week. He mentioned early on he had a run or 2 above the 400k mark, but has yet to post a score. Contest GM bimmy_lee even posted a gif of Shane's persona the Ultimate Warrior
to coax him out of hiding. The former Editor-in-Chief of NA's Ezine is indeed a busy man IRL, but will he have time to make a splash in this grudge match?

Stay tuned to see if the American Dream can hold on and win it all between these men!

Richardhead vs. JamesRobot III

Home Invasions, Mom Appriciation and "Chumpstains" par for the course in this weeks punch for punch rivalry

In keeping  with this week's rivalry theme, JamesRobot and Richardhead are at it once again in Kung Fu.
Things got off to a peculiar start this week when JamesRobot hi-jacked Richardhead's own television whilst Mr. Head was out on a date with Mrs. Head.
James posted the high score on Richard's TV along with a pair of Degeneration Xer's instructing Richard to "Suck it."

The pair have been brawling back and forth all week long. Each one besting the other several times.
Richardhead currently holds the lead over JamesRobot  420,120 to 347,960 even though JamesRobot posted some suspect Kung Fu themed artwork in appreciation of Richard's Mom.

This has been a great match-up and I'm sure the score is not quite settled yet.
Also... can somebody please tell me what the heck a "chumpstain" is?

Awesome news update as always! Hopefully I can get another run in sometime today after the Bearcats game, but I might have to settle for the Intercontinental title this week.

Thus far I can't even comprehend getting over a million points in this game. I can barely break 200,000.

Have you been using some of the tips given in the thread? I found that some of them helped me a lot. Watching that video of the world record holder was great, even if it's not always so easy to put things into practice.

In other news, score updated. 700k and Mr. Brock taunt me!

From this thread I learned about the 5000 point bonus for jump-kicking the hugger, and that is difficult to pull off consistently. I haven't watched the video.

Just jump kick the 12th baddie you kill (if it's a hugger), if not, run the other direction if you can while avoiding the knife throwers, and either jump over the munchkins or "shake" them off. After the 12th, start counting up again from 1

I don't rack up points like that on stage 2, and on stage 4 once you pass the moths, you can do it before fighting the magician (and if you do it right, you can continue it after the magician).

Here's a few tips for the magician (coz everyone has problems with that fucker, myself included):
- When you approach him, alway jump kick and land as close as you can to perform crouching punches.
- If the magician walks backwards away from you, DO THE SAME, then repeat #1
- Be sure to jump at the appropriate spots/distances, otherwise he can throw a ball of whatever toward the ground and it'll hurt you
- DO NOT KICK HIS HEAD OFF
- DO NOT PUNCH TOO QUICKLY
- DO NOT CONTINUE BEING IDLE/KEEPING HIM ON THE SCREEN - he will clone himself and attack you from both sides

Another tip after you defeat Mr. X:
If you stand on the 2nd to last pillar of the level, only munchkins will spawn in groups of 4 for the remainder of the level. This seems to happen on levels 3 and 5, though on level 3, you'll get a knife thrower in the mix, but not on level 5. If I still have the 5000 point jump kick bonus going on, I'll let 8 munchkins come out, then move a few steps back to get a hugger in the mix.

How to beat each boss:
- Stage 1: Run up, and do crouching kicks/sweeps, and run backward after he starts to swing his sword.
- Stage 2: Jump or duck under the boomerang, then jump kick the boss followed by crouching punches as fast as you can. Continue to dodge the boomerang(s) as they return
- Stage 3: Jump kick in the face then crouch and punch as fast as possible. You may get hit once, so try to show up to him with at least 50% life.
- Stage 4: explained above
- Stage 5: Just spam crouching kicks and he'll never be able to get a hit on you

Point Pressing:
- Stage 1, 3, and 5: 5000 point jump kicks
- Stage 2: Take out the dragons and floating exloding balls until about 800 - 900 seconds. In the first loop, you can get about 50,000 - 60,000 on the stage this way, loops 2 and onward you can get 70,000+ pretty consistently.
- Stage 4: If you're ballsy, you can point rack the moths (500 points each, fast spawn times), though I don't recommend it. If you get past the moths, you can begin your 5000 point jump kicks (just start counting at 4, provided you killed the moths on the way there). Typically I'll do the 5000 point tricks here until a knife thrower pops up and ruins it. On later loops, I don't bother with the point racking until after the magician is killed. Sometimes I can do it fast enough and maintain the 5,000 point bonus, but generally I lose count or it gets screwed up by a knifer.

You *should* be able to rack up at least 50,000 points per level (more on later loops), but never risk a life when you're at low health. At the ends of the stage, I exit when the timer drops below 100, and usually end up with between 20 an 45 seconds left on the clock.

Hopefully this helps some of you guys

There was a time when I was obsessed with the time trial mode in "Super Punch-Out" and I believe I got all of the times down to under 30 seconds, and then the battery on my cartridge died and it was all gone, and I eventually just tossed it. I should get another "Super Punch-Out" cart.

Thanks for the tips, dra600n.

I've experienced situations with unavoidable hits so it's a good idea to get to bosses with a lot of health. Like the boomerang boss will sometimes throw high and low boomerangs together so that it's impossible not to take damage. Or you'll be stuck between a knife guy and boomerang guy, and you can't duck or jump the one without getting hit by the other. And sometimes Mr. X will get in a nasty jump kick as I try to sweep kick him.

I'm waiting for Arnold Skaaland to throw in the towel for me on this one. I had 983k with three lives left on the fourth floor and lost every one of them back to back to back.

I definitely have a compiler to finish up, but beating you is my #1 priority. Can't let some "midnight rider" from Dirty Jersey dethrone me
