I'd like to know more about the Solar Wars (I know EarlyWorm has one, someone get him to chime in). From all my research, Chris provided info on making them, and a few people volunteered to make carts for those without soldering skills. I never heard that there was an actual release of them.

BTW: Solar Wars is quite fun if you're into a "scorched earth" kind of game. I played "scorched earth" alot in my first year of University and its a great way to pick on your friends.

I don't know how 'official' the release was (or how official any homebrewn release can be) but someone certainly made ten or twenty carts and sold them on 2 or 3 forums, and I'm pretty sure it was in partnership with Chris Covell.

I just wish my memory was better about this. I'll try to dig up some more info if I can. I couldn't find anything on archive.org when I looked earlier. Not really surprising, it's not especially thorough or complete with ye olde NES websites.

I can also provide some better pictures of the cart (you know, decent lighting, use a tripod, et cetera) if anyone's interested in that.

I'd love a nice picture of it. Also if 10 or 20 were made, I think it's safe to add to the list. Anyone know how to get a hold of Chris Covell these days, maybe I can get a hold of him at the nesdev forums and see what the whole story is behind this.

He can usually be found around the mornings on irc in #nesdev on efnet. I don't think he's always on there, but he's usually at least idle.

ok, I've edited the original message and added a link to my html file. The file contains all the carts I know of. I still need to add some information, but that'll come. I've left the coming soon on the post for now. If I can figure out how to get an embedded table working here, I'll move the list back to the post.

Yes indeed.  I also noticed Challenging Lolo is on the list.  I made that one in case you didn't know.

yeah, I'll fix that, I also first put Chris Cowell instead of Covell, lol, I do stupid things like that sometimes. I'll update Challenging Lolo as you Sivak too.

btw, the automatic editor here is a pain in the ass. everytime I edit something, it recodes it all messed up. I spent more time fixing code than actually updating lol

One other thought: That build of Geminim (the one of 33) is dated 3/12/2008 in case you want specifics.

When I make the standard one I'll put a date on that too.

I had some specific dates, but I think month/year will suffice. hell some things you're lucky to find a year lol. Anyway I updated the file a bit, if changes don't show, just hit refresh. Dain, just helped me out a little with the formatting so I may move the list back to the post.

Well, here's a higher res image of the cart to better show the label. It's basically a peice of paper under a peice of plastic. The plastic on top of my cart peeled back a bit, so I have a bit of yellowing of the paper at the top (as you can no doubt see). The plastic cover makes it difficult to take a decent photo. Weird reflections everywhere. The shape at the bottom centre of the label is a camera artifact, but this is still the best one I got. Do with it what you will, gentlemen o_q

Also, udisi, http://www.wayfar.net/... has released a few midines carts, if you think that ought to be included. 1.0, 1.0.3 and 1.1.0 carts all exist. 1.0 was sold exclusively through ebay, I beleive, and the newer two were/are avaliable directly on the site. They aren't games per se, but I suppose it's still a homebrewn release.

I do want to include midines, I'll probably make it a single entry under the Misc category, if I ever get to making a dedicated web site, I will include variations. I know the Sudoku 2007 has a few as well as the nwc repro too, and things like the Airball Gold Cart, etc.

Actually, one more random piece of info: Challenging Lolo was released on 10/26/2004. I also made a Challenging Lolo 2, though that one wasn't put onto a cart.

yeah, I'm looking for the dates that the producers started making them. A lot of the hacks and such were made years before they made it to cart. I should probably ask Leon when he started making these, if he even knows anymore.

I've seen forum posts of people getting repros from him at a toronto game show back in Aug 2004.

Yeah, Leon was definitely making repro's at that time. I went to that August 2004 meet and he was showing off some mini putt game that he had.

Most of those are the Bob Roast student games. Grave Digger, Sack of Flour, Heart of Gold. Box Boy is from the yearly mini game competition. Hot Seat Harry is a "memblers" game. I think these are just mockups. The Student games are probably done in Nbasic, and I've found many of them buggy and I'm not sure if they'd work on a cart or not. As for making Solar Wars, it's perfectly legal to make a personal copy, but his documentation I believe forbids, making them for profit. That's not to say, someone couldn't contact Chris and set up an arrangement with him.

I could always try to make you one for the toronto meet.   I wont make any promises though, since it takes about an hour (a lot longer if I need to make artwork) and I've been really busy lately.

I updated the linked list with some programmer credits and such. I'm starting to run dry on some info. I contacted Leon about his repros, and he doesn't have any dates so, I may never have those, or I may just use the release date of the rom since he's been making repros since the 90's
