If it's CRT and analog SD only, it should work. HDCRTs won't work with zappers because they upscale the image.

Sweet! I'm convinced after doing a bunch of digging that flat SD CRTs work and any conflicting reports seem to be from folks not realizing they have an HDCRT most of the time.

Welcome to the club! I freakin' love mine.

Definitely do as others have suggested and take advantage of the Component inputs!

Edit* And in response to some of the discussion above, his should certainly work with a light gun. The first game I fired up on mine was Duck Hunt.

Unfortunately, not yet. I'm really tempted because that coax quality running through my vcr is kinda bugging me.

I'm picking up a 36 incher tonight, Sony KV-36FS17... Had a couple questions if anyone knows the answer. First, is there any chance two people can load this beast into an SUV without disaster? Looking online, it seems to be over 200 pounds. Clearly they filled the things with bricks.

Second, I know the Sonys get a good reputation for gaming tv's, does anyone know how this compares to some of the other Sony Wega's?

Lastly, anyone know of a good solid tv stand that could support this thing? Most of the newer ones are not designed to hold this kind of weight...

It's probably too late now, but I can at least answer the first question.

I got the 32" as you saw here and weight-wise, 2 people were good for loading and unloading. Obviously it just depends on how much weight you can handle.

Getting into my card (Ford Fusion sedan) was somewhat difficult. The thing bareley fit through the door of my back seat. There is no way I would have got a 36" in there. An SUV though, if you can fold down the seats and put it in through the back would be fine.

The guy I bought it from was able to help my get it into the back of an SUV, but even that was difficult.  This thing is going to be a challenge to move down to the basement/game room this weekend.  Still not sure what I'm going to do for a stand, as none of the newer ones are designed to support a 230 lb. tv...

Surprisingly, when I went to pick it up, $20 off Craigslist, the guy asked me if I was going to use it as a gaming tv, so he knew exactly what he had...

I'm sure you can find a solid wood stand on CL.

I found one of these local listed for free. I'm getting ready to go pick it up. I see that it only has 1 S-video and 2 AV inputs. What did you guys do for multiple consoles?

I have one of these for NES, SNES, PS1, etc...  It's not RGB, but for $20, it's pretty convenient.

And then I added this, for newer consoles...

I have two of those. The only way to go. I labeled each input as well. Makes it very easy

That HDMI switcher is the greatest thing ever.  I have PS3, PS4, Wii, and Dreamcast (VGA to HDMI) hooked up to it.  To not have to remember which input on a receiver corresponds to which system, and just turn on any system and have it be recognized, it's a beautiful thing.

Very nice. I don't have room for a TV like that at the moment sadly. Plus there's something about squinting at a shitty 15" CRT while sitting within 6 feet of it that you just can't beat. Haha!

Sorry for necro-ing, but this was one of the first results that popped up when I Googled the model number! Someone listed one for free locally, and wanted to see if it was worth the pick-up. Will it for sure play with light-guns? This will be my first CRT in a long while.

ill be honest here if it werent for the fact that these tvs look better with old school connections and consoles i would have upgraded to a flat screen years ago. but the crt work with light guns and dont have any lag. if only flat screen could do that

Sorry, I'm sort of new and rejoining the retro community after years of inactivity. Do you mean that the flat screens (such as the one in OP) will have lag? And I thought the light guns will work with this model since it's SD and not HD--unless there's some interference with the geometry of the flat screen?

Adding a CRT to my setup will take up a considerable amount of space, so I'd prefer to have something that will be worthwhile and won't leave me nabbing at my subconcious.

I don't think that switch supports S-Video.

For my SNES and N64, S-video makes a HUGE difference. For GameCube, the quality jump for S-video over composite was much greater than the jump from 480i S-video to 480p component.

That said, I bought 3 brand new S-video cables (Retrobit?) several years ago and found they all had something wrong. I had to return them to the local shop for a refund. It looked like a fine pattern over the whole screen. I modified an official composite AV cable (repositioned pins in the multi connector) and made my own S-video cable that worked great for SNES/N64/GameCube. Then I bought a bunch of really cheap ones on eBay that worked great.

He means "flat panel" TV will lag. Flat CRT should work fine if it's SD and has no image processor.

Even though these are SD, I have found light guns to be very finicky with flat screens. There are plenty of Trinitrons with the rounded screen out there. If you are concerned about light gun games, you may want to hold out for one of those.
