2016 WEEK 20 SANTA WEEKLY NEWS UPDATE!!! - GYRUSS ***4TH OF JULY/CANADA DAY EDITION***
***********************************************************************************************
As millions of Canadians tried to drunkenly iceskate on unfrozen lakes and millions more Americans drunkenly blew shit up all to honor their country's birthdays, the men and women of Nintendoge's Weekly Contests were
battling it out for Gyruss supremacy.
Scores took a sharp jump upwards after about the halfway point this week.
I think this is also the first time the new contest format is starting to change the strategies of our contestants.
With the Bye Week here, it's time for a short Summer Vacation.
But before you go, check out everything that happened this week!

SKINNYGRINNY CLINGS TO A SLIM LEAD TRYING TO GET BACK INTO FORM BEFORE THE BREAK
No Cobra Kai this week, just good old fashioned "Grinder" action for Gyruss
It appears as if "The Grinder" will head into the break with another gold medal under his belt.
With only minutes reamaining (and as of this writing)
skinnygrinny currently sits atop the mountain of scores this week with a score of
888,950. He is only 3,900 points ahead of
arnpoly
who in sceond place has a score of
885,050.
The scores and participation this week have been really impressive.
24 different contestants have all entered scores above the participation point threshold.
8 have scored over 600,000 points.
To reach the top 8 this week you'll need to get past
laddersandcakes who is currently in control of the 8th spot with an impressive score of
616,150.
For anyone who finishes in the top 8 this week, my hat goes off to you.

GYRUSS FEVER IS CONTAGIOUS AMONG CONTESTANTS!!!
A handful of players really showed their appreciation for Gyrus this week
Every few weeks a game comes along that seems to really hook a good segment of our players.
Gyruss was that game for some.
Check out what the gang did this week climbing aboard the Gyruss Train.
- SuperJimtendo was nice enough to share a picture of his best friend
Richardhead wearing his "Gyruss Goggles" with all of us this week.
-
laddersandcakes had his Gyruss excitement so high, he went and attacked the Atari2600 version after posting up a mega score on the NES.
-
Brock Landers went on (for fun) to post a score after he looped the game just to see how far he could go.
- Players
Bea_Iank,
the tall guy and
zobber all comented on how much they enjoyed the game this week (along with posting pretty high scores themselves).
-
arnpoly and
gutsman004 were old masters that were happy to return at Gyruss and kick some butt.
It's nice to see when players enjoy battling through a game for the week as that is not always the case.

NEW CONTEST FORMAT STARTING TO HAVE AN EFFECT ON PLAYERS?
The First half of the season is in the books. How are players reacting?
For ages, the contests have been broken up into 2 seasons (Summer Season & Winter Season).
2016 is the first year NA will have an official year long champion for the regular season and only 3 recipiants of gold, silver and bronze icons for the three tiers in the playoffs at year's end.
No doubt the season is long, but like baseball - excellence over time is difficult to achieve.
At the halfway point the contest has seen 66 different participants.
Not everyone will make the playoffs and who knows if there are other 'ringers' still out there that have not jumped into the fray yet.
From time to time a few folks jump into the contests to post a score for the rest of us to chase.
Even more folks play for the fun of it and to test their mettle against some of the best NES players in the world (at least I think so
AirVillian).
But to reamain at or near the top of the standings it takes a lot of skill, time and determination.
The bye week is here, but it appears some of the contest's big guns are begining to tire and thatcould open the door for some others to catch up in a big way.
For the second week in a row Canadian celebrity
ToxieRules has mentioned his contest fatigue (as wewll as being sidetracked currently by Dragon Quest). He entered the contests with a huge splash, but could he be tiring out?
Brock Landers has also shown some signs of NES fatigue. Toxie currently sits at 4th place overall and Brock is in control of the Year's Silver Medal at the moment.
It's tough at the top. Will the break get these guys and others refreshed? Or, will their excellence ultimately tire them out and allow others to catch them from behind?
For those watching this marathon, it's stories like this that make the season so exciting.
Meanwhile... Human Cyborg
bertsampson continues to wipe the floor each week with the rest of the compitition. Can he continue his reign of terror, or will a different schedule in the summertime have an influence on his concentration and skills?
Is he even human?

It appears that "Nostradumbass" was indeed pretty accurate this week. His crystal ball got 2 places exactly right and 7 out of the 8 contestants he picked were on his list.
This week was a win for "Bold Predictions."
To add...
Keep a keen eye on these players that seem to be heating up.
the tall man: Randy is an excellent player who is often mistaken in public for former Broncos QB Peyton Manning. He has posted scores landing him in scoring spots for the past 2 weeks in a row. If he sticks around for the rest of the way,
he could find himself in elite company. This southern gentleman is soft spoken and one of the nicest people I've ever met. He is a warrior though - and not easily bested.
Bea_Iank: Bea is still healing up from a horrilbe incident a few weeks ago and is one of the best gamers on these forums. If a game on a particular week tickles her fancy, she's a force to be reckoned with.
The "Can NA beat every NES game in a year thread is winding down, so if she has enough rum and coffeeeveryone else should look out.
(also... sorry about the "tits" outburst Bea. I drank
at least 2 bottles of wine last night and I don't know why I even wrote that.).
Teknoskan: Still a mystery man(?) at this point and I have no idea what their name even means. What I do know however is this player has proven themselves a person to not take lightly. If the season leaders do
get tired late in the year, Teknoskan has the ability to make a push to the front.

Quick PSA about the JosephLeo Family Fundraiser
NA Community is stepping up to help one of their own
As most of us have already heard, earlier this week NA Member JosephLeo's infant son passed away unexpectedly.
It is a terrible tragedy and many members of Nintendoage have decided to help out with burial costs.
If you would like to make a cash donation check out this thread -
http://nintendoage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=7&thr...
Also, if you would like information about the Community Garage Sale to benefit the Leos check here -

Anything you could do to help would be greatly appreciated.
Nintendoage is not just an online forum.
It truly is a community.

Well, that's it for another Update!
Enjoy the break everyone, after 20 weeks it looks like many of us need one.
- Will the break re-energize some of our contestants?
- Who the hell puts pineapple and pepperoni on a pizza?
- What iexactly is a Chilliwack?
Tune in next week to the contests to find out!
