Cool it, people. Nintendo is probably manufacturing as many as they possibly can and building inventory for a massive blowout on Black Friday with a free second controller or something.

I'll be watching.

It's only been a few days and the next shipment hasn't even arrived. The next shipment could open the floodgates so the NES Classic Edition very well may be $60 and easier to get within the week. If not then at least wait until Black Friday because inventory may be held up for that.

It's too early for all the overreactions. Before you swear off Nintendo, how about we give them a week or month to respond to demand?

I knew it would be like this when no pre-orders were even available.

I don't think Nintendo intentionally shorts product to create hype, I think it is a fundamentally conservative company that would rather be back ordered than back stocked.

When these are readily available at retail, I'll get one. And I'm very curious to see how the new OEM NES controllers can be modded for use on a genuine NES (they'll need new longer cords, too, it seems).

In the meantime, I have AVS for playing via HDMI.

I suspect that it may be easier to swap an old Nintendo controller PCB and cable into the new controller plastic housing than to take the rubber pads from a new controller to put on an old one.

Don't some places make new pads? I don't get cannibalizing the new controllers just for the pads.

Yep, I forget where, but I've bought new pads for NES and SNES controllers about a year ago or so and still have leftovers for both

I've got some bum controllers that still didn't feel right even after I cleaned out the Coke residue (yes one of them apparently had 30-year-old soda spilled in it). So I bought some replacement pads here:

I'm probably just gonna swap out all my old controllers (I've got more than enough, hehe...). One of them however the CD4021 chip appears to be dead or malfunctioned so I'm gonna convert it to work as an Atari 2600/7800 controller. It needs new pads also.

To deploy the nukes, of course!

I get asked that a lot actually. It's not a button but a volume knob to control the expansion audio.

Instead of a 47kohm inline resistor like Bunnyboy said to use, I have a grounded 10kohm audio taper pot installed so I can vary the expansion sound channel from zero to loud. It sounds "balanced" in about the 2/3 to 3/4 position.

Speaking of controllers are any buttons interchangeable between the NES Gamepad, Dogbone and Max? Or maybe the Dpads? I guess not for the Dpads since I think the Dogbone one is bigger... not sure about the buttons though.
