This thing is called DUCk or DMG Universal CheKer. I'm not sure exactly what it is or does. Has anyone heard of or seen one before?

1/15 Came in today and the boards is marked (1989 Nintendo DMG-Duck Main-02)

duck 2.1

duck2.1a

Limbofunk- "I'm not really sure, I've seen one of these for the SNES before that looked quite similar.  maybe check with ProtonX, I think he might have had one at some point."

ProtonX- "Wow- I have never seen anything quite like this. I have heard of devices like this- but never seen one. The closest I have seen was a similar style device that a playNtrade had for testing almost any systems controllers. This was likely used at something like a gamecrazy style repair faculty to test... I'm not even sure what it tests."

It's interesting and can't wait to try it out.

<div center;"=""> From a member on Assemblers

It's a ROM checksum testing machine... and the software may well be in a separate Famicom cartridge (not included).

UPDATE 7/24 Here isa NES CAT which is much like the DUCK.

Did you buy it from eBay? I know the auction ended at where it started $99 and none bite it. Seller relisted it 3 times and then  I stopped watching after that.

I think it's a time machine.

Are you sure DUCK doesn't stand for Dimensional Utility Conduit Kinetic-izer? Cause I think it does.

I got something like that a few years ago and I started getting emails like this:

"... the calibration right? We don't much of a window. If you are receving this transmission, Google is the enemy. We don't know how or when, but Google took control of the Global Defense Network... oogle.... alive.... stop as soon as pos... nuclear wint.... ...the calibration right? We don't much of a window. If you are receving this transmission, Google is the enemy. We don't know how or when, but Google took control of the Global Defense Network... oogle.... alive.... stop as soon as pos... nuclear wint.... ... the calibration right? We don't much of a window. If you are receving this transmission, Google is the enemy. We don't know how or when, but Google took control of the Global Defense Network... oogle.... alive.... stop as soon as pos... nuclear wint...."

but I marked them as spam and couldn't even manage to give a fuck.

I kind of wanted to buy it but I was spending money on presents and buying some games in between and didn't really have spare for stuff I don't really know what is for. However I would like to know myself what is it for..

appears to have a slot for GB and SFC/SNES carts.

might have the ability to check games. seller from San Fran area - could have come from any number of game developers/companies in that region from the NES/SNES/GB life. DMG = dot matrix game.

cool as shit though - i would have bought it for what you paid if i had seen it - i just don't look for this stuff anymore. also kind of reminds me of a demovision, but has no AV out... right? have you opened it up?

ETA: i'd post this over at assembler to see what they might have to say about it...

It's looks like an early ATM prototype using simple gameboy technology, lol.
It could also be something some guy did in his garage.

Very interesting, would like to know what exactly it is. Then again kid me was fascinated with the in game store display at a venture for the original gameboy. Easily enthralled by video game things.

My first thoughts were Intelligent Systems had designed the unit. Have a few of their older setups in my collection. From the photos the blue color scheme was the only thing I had to go off. A member on assemblers found an old photo with what looks to be a very similar setup. From what I was told it was a rom checksum device. The white cart inserted in top would more then likely have the correct rom on it. Then the lower slot would be used to check against questionable carts. Seems very logical that this could very well be what it does.

This thing just got a little bit cooler. Turns out the main board is marked Nintendo. So this was more then likely the same one in the picture. The one in the picture was more then likely the 1st version of the Duck. The main board has an adapter from Famicom to Gameboy.
