I hope the scoreboard limits the entries to 1 per user (highest score). If a dev like Khan fills the entire top 50 slots it would kinda discourage others from using this cool feature.

You get both!

For each game you can either look at all the scores ever: http://nintendoage.com/index.cfm?...

Or just the rankings, which is only the best score for each player: http://nintendoage.com/index.cfm?...

Does it look for completion on games that don't use points or high scores?

So now we can finally play all 5 of the NES games that have a functioning scoring system and compare?

Do we even have a list of NES games where a score actually matters (non-exploitable and no mindless point farming?).

Good morning sunshine. So glad you could grace us with your negativity. It's an extra feature, should it have just been left out?

It's supposed to be something fun.

None of those yet, haven't checked any games to see how difficult it would be to detect completion.

You don't think that is a valid question?  What's the point of tracking scores that are meaningless?  Would it not make mores sense to determine which games are not busted and emphasize play for them?

I believe the point is to have a score-keeping system to keep track of personal and friend scores. If you want to compare to NA, there will probably be people who do that endless grinding just to max out or get the #1 score. But you know how you achieved your score and your friends should be trusted enough to compare to as well.

It is indeed a valid desire to compile a lits of games that don't allow point racking, where the point system does a good job of gauging who is best.

I don't exploit or farm (tho I do use turbo), and neither do the people I care about, so tracking the scores isn't meaningless.

Best way to figure out which games are broken is to have lots of people trying to break them. Maybe those can be deemphasized in the overall ranking but should absolutely still be tracked.

Yup.  + or - if anyone has actually been practicing.

Lunar Pool is a fun game. I've got it; it's cheap, and there's 60 levels plus adjustable gravity (friction) to play with. I've never tried to play all 60 stages straight through but I'm sure some impressive scores are possible as you can earn extra lives for impressive combos and clearing tables.

Is there a list of games high scores will be kept for?

This is the first thing on my to do list this weekend. I want to make a post of what games are ready and when to submit your score (game over/high score/new game screens) This way players will know exactly what to do and not loose their high scores before Nes cart erases them. There will also be a list of games that won't work (yet) and why...and the thread will be a good location for new addition requests to be filed.
I've wondered this as there are a number of games that dump your score after a Game Over or Ending event.

Super Mario Bros displays the high score on the Princess screen so I usually quit there. I may take my time with a no warps run (with some Koopa shell abuse on the steps of 3-1). However grinding for points then suicide on the same level over and over can get boring and lame. Gotta be careful too as it's automatic game over if you exceed 128 lives. SMB2j also offers some nice "grinding" opportunities with backfacing warp zones too...

I wanted to address something regarding cheats... Some games have 'em built in. If someone boots Contra and inputs the Konami code, does the AVS check for this? I assume there is a flag somewhere in RAM when developer enabled cheats are used.

Nope. As of right now anything built into the game is fair to use.

What if somebody uses a map from Nintendo Power or looks up how to do something online? How am I to know that everyone is playing fairly and not cheating in any ways possible?

Good grief, let's suck the fun out of this as well.

So this means controllers with turbo functions wont be blocked and are allowed on scoreboard scoring?
