Man, I keep choking on the bonus stages. So many, many lost points.

I'm not sure why the bonus stages are weighted so heavily in this game. It doesn't make much sense that you get around 2000 points for completing the actual mountain, but up to 70,000 points for the bonus stage alone. If I hadn't missed 4 or 5 bonus stages, I probably would have had a score around 900,000. On the flip side, if I had missed them all, I probably would have ended up with a score of around 400,000.

Not only that, but the bonus stages seem more difficult than the actual mountain. Typically bonus stages are your gravy reward for completing tough stages, and this is the complete opposite. So weird. I still love the game and it's one of my favorite black box games, but man is the scoring strange and the jump mechanics janky. It'd also have been nice to get some points for the yetis as they are always in your way. Even the ice blocks are worth points, but yetis?.....nah,worthless.

And fun fact: I never knew until this week that you could run from one side of the screen and come out on the other. I never tried.

I'm not too great at this game.. I always seem to burn all my lives in one spot.  Those bonus stages are a giant chunk of your score though.  Figured I'd submit one for fun anyway.

Bored at work so I tried it out. I'll improve it this weekend. I only got 2 of the 7 bonus stages I tried!

Also, this is my first participation in the weekly gaming contest, woot woot.

If anyone manages to roll the score this week, make sure you take a picture right before you roll the score and right after so that there's proof you actually rolled the score. The rules will be updated with this.

-------------------------

My NES collection count: 757 games (16 to go for a full set)

Latest Purchase(s): Snow Brothers

Lol,I'm having trouble just cracking 30k,then again I've only played this for maybe 2-3 hours total this week. I just suck at this game right now. My placing in the top 10 streak is definitely in jeopardy. I'll try to post a less pathetic score tonight.

Got a couple shit runs today, but I will probably make a good one this WE! My biggest problem is smashing the platforms while jumping off a fast-moving cloud... just to have a yeti rebuild it after a couple failed jumps from the cloud. If you manage to get off the cloud safely, please do yourself a favor and CLOBBER THE SHIT OUT OF THAT YETI!

Been doing a lot of stuff this past week and a half. Missed Joust and not sure if I'll be able to put another score in but here is mine.

78,740. Probably a one and done this week unless i can try to find some time this weekend. overall, it's not as bad as it used to be personally (once you get a hang of the jump mechanics).

Was there any way to capture the score before you rolled it?  I don't doubt that you did, but I want to avoid anyone taking advantage of the score rolling rule if it is hard to capture a screenshot of the score prior to it being rolled.

It had already added my bonus points and rolled my score by the time I snapped my picture, but you can see where it added the 50,000 bonus points plus 10,000 more while my total at the bottom shows 40,720 which should be able to prove that it rolled over since my total score is less than than the points that had already been counted.

Ah, I gotcha.  Thanks for the clarification, as I wasn't sure if it had completely added in your bonus points yet or not.  That's quite the impressive score and not something I would easily be able to pull off thanks to the horrific jumping mechanics in this game lol.

Great score!

For future reference, it's possible to pause the game on the screen that awards all the points.  It should be easy enough to get "before and after" shots of the score rollover.

That said, I have no doubt that this is a rolled over score, as the amount of points you're getting awarded clearly shows it.

Thanks! I wanted to make sure that I had my camera ready and I didn't hit the pause button quick enough before it rolled over my score. I figured that it would still be easy enough to tell since it shows that my total score is lower than the points that I had already been awarded. I also lost my last life on the next mountain as you can see in the second picture so I was hoping that would be enough to show that the score did roll over.

Thanks! A lot of it is just repetition. Once you get the timing down, they aren't too bad.

Timing in what sense?  I'm talking about the floors that push you in either direction, not the cloud platforms.  Although those little platforms that move fast also give me trouble, mainly because I have trouble getting through a floor sooner than the little guy repairs it

Oops, I thought you were talking about the moving cloud platforms. Those sliding floors are even more annoying.

Christ that's an insane score. Pretty discouraging to see that score compared to where mine is,but I take solace in the fact that at some point I will be the one posting an insane score.

Thanks! I was really pressing on that last bonus stage since I had a feeling that it was going to be the difference between me getting the rollover or not. It turns out that I was right since if I hadn't gotten that bonus I would have fallen just under 5,000 points short which would have really been a bummer.
