I just discovered this somewhat obscure song by Mother Maybelle Carter and the Carter Family (not to be confused with and no relation to the former President mind you) called Ballad to the Future...this song came out in the early 70s and let me tell you, the way this predicts 9/11 in the then future year 2001 is beyond creepy.  Strangely, the song refers to the year as "twenty-oh-one" instead of the usual "two thousand one".  I would post lyrics of the song if I could find them anywhere.  But take a listen for yourself.

Crazy to think it was written by a 15 year old?!

Kenneth Jones

I will put on my tinfoil hat ONLY after I hear the song played backwards.

Weird that you can't look up the lyrics to this on Google at all, just tried. Maybe I didn't look hard enough, but normally when typing in the band name and song title with "lyrics" afterward, the first 50 results are lyrics to the song.

It's actually got a really nice melody to it, albeit a bit eerie.

Thanks for the share!

Yeah they don't seem to be anywhere that I can tell. Odd.

Apparently Anita Carter is the listed singer, and it was included on her "Songbird" album, a posthumous release of rarities and unreleased songs in 2006 (she died in 1999.) It might have been recorded in the 70s, but I don't see it showing up anywhere else.

As someone who grew up Christian, I've heard my share of "apocalyptic" talk. The turn of the millennium was always a hot time for people giving "educated guesses" of when things would get crazy.

9/11 makes 2001 rememberable as a bad year, but this type of rhetoric is pretty mild compared to other things I use to hear people predict.

Plus, Looney Toons predicted it in 1947.

Ok, for seemingly the first time in history, I typed up the lyrics to this song. Besides the 2001 reference, I've gotta go with "nah" on this one. Talks about the collapse of society in 2001, no other 9/11-ish references.

As I gaze through the foggy annals of time
I see poets write poems in which words never rhyme
I see great rows of houses, but never a home
And the date on the wall is 20-o-1

As I gaze way down deeper, in the well of my mind
I see the destruction of my fellow mankind
I see the collapsing of society
Is this the result of mediocrity?

I watch the destruction of life I know well
Earth took the appearance of one giant hell
I saw the reflection of god’s sympathy
Is this the way God meant it to be

And now as I witness the end of the world
The flags of our nations are proudly unfurled
It came not of fire, or even of smoke (conspiracy theory debunkage 2018  )
On our lust for great power, the Earth slowly choked

Yeah, that just reads like some run-of-the-mill year-2000-expected-rapture kind of stuff.

What are you talking about?  The Carter family was among the first of the all time legends of country music.

haha, totally spot on
Even though the Word Tade Center was not built until 1973, clearly the prophets at Looney Tunes knew it was bound to fall

Also, Jesus in a toast, I know it means something about the future (I'm thinking Bloodborne 2?)

I admit that the towers referred to in the cartoon are probably just generic and weren't a prediction of anything, but that clip is still creepy as hell when you watch it today.
