They made a smaller nintendo switch that is strictly ofr mobile play. O saw this comming and quite frankly I'm a bit suprised it didn't some sooner. The joycons are not detachable, making some games not playable without seperate purchase. Just bear in mind that this cannot be hooked up to a TV. It costs $199.99.

It's a cool announcement but pass for me since it is handheld only. Interesting to see how it sells at $200. The full system at $300 seems like a much better buy. I'd have thought a handheld only system would do better at a $160-$175ish price point.

You would be surprised how much $199 vs $299 impacts the market. Smart move by Nintendo. Will likely see system bundles and a discount to $179 at some point.

I think it's cool but I won't be buying one at launch, and probably won't until there is a Zelda edition. The D-Pad is sick and I hope they add one to removable joycons at some point.

I'm worried about games that don't have cloud backups though. Like if I start Pokemon on my main Switch, does that mean I can't carry over the progress to my portable Switch and vice versa? That's a big problem if that ends up being the case.

Yeah I was gonna say we are right around the time for a Black Friday price drop and bundled with a popular digital game.

Agree on the D-pad vs the arrow buttons.

How is it a switch at all if you can't switch anything about it?

I could see a certain segment having demand for this, particularly for those who would only play mobile and like the cheaper price point. But for me, moreso than I even anticipated, switching back and forth between full screen and mobile has been a feature I've enjoyed and utilized a ton. But I don't think people who already have a regular switch are the real target market for this anyway.

If nothing else, it's another option out there, so that's cool.

It's bullshit fuckery to milk the customers nothing cool about it. Granted i'm not into it anyway but i could've been if it was some improvement to the original console and then i would be stuck with the one i already have putting me in a position where it isn't worth it at that point. They could release all these multiple versions at the same time it's not like they don't know what they're gonna create but they purposely wait just to fuck around.

I'll admit to being confused by this. The Switch Lite just becomes another handheld, doesn't it? None of the flexibility that makes the original such a good concept.

It's basically just the last nail in the coffin for the 3DS

Definitely nail in the coffin for 3DS, and the Non-Switching Switch comment is great.

Real concern is will those joy-cons hold up? I like the Premium version so that if/when the joy-cons mess up they can be replaced.

This feels Wii Uish tablet to me a little bit. Still will sell a shit ton no doubt, continued handheld dominance for sure. Great timing too on Nintendo for 3Q heading into the holidays.

I'll pass on it. Smart move though: make a system that doesn't outright replace the other so you'd don't have to lower the cost. lol Plus, I'm sure it was cheaper for them to make.

I'll still stick with the original, due to TV connectivity and the ability to change out joycons when they go bad.

Even the lite version of the Switch is a big improvement over the 3DS though. I love my 3DS but I've barely touched it since getting a Switch.

You have to wonder if part of this is catering to families where they might want to have multi-device multiplayer without the need for multiple full priced consoles.

I doubt their main buyer for this is getting this version as their only Switch console -- i.e. $200 is easier to stomach than $300 to keep Kid #2 happy on road trips.

Definitely harkens back to the old GB times or multi-colored units that came out around Father's Day one year with a big push for linked play.

This brings up a good point- I would much rather spend $200 on this for the kids since they wouldn't be hooking it up to a TV anyway?   I think I've only played mine on the TV once; it's mainly played when the wife is watching something or I'm traveling.

Nintendo Switch: 4310 mAh battery
Nintendo Switch Lite: 3570 mAh battery

So, it seems like the rumors of a new CPU are true. Smaller fan and vent, smaller battery, and improved battery performance. What will definitely be interesting is when people take them apart and also run tests on the system. I'm curious how the clock speeds will differ, if at all.

Also, someone asked if the Pro Controller works. To answer your question, yes. The Switch Lite still supports Bluetooth.

Lots of good comments and I agree with most. Since most of us already own a Switch, it makes sense that we won't buy another, especially one with decreased features. We are not the target market. Switch Pro would be more up my alley, and honestly I don't even think I really need one of those as they are doing a good job porting over most games despite graphical/processor limits.
