Does Xmas 2016 save high scores like 2013 and 2015 do?
Nope, the only way to save your scores is to upload them to the AVS Online Scoreboard itself.
Sneaky sneaky by the game/AVS develpment team
Is this true? The game doesn't actually save high scores? Why would that be removed? Some people don't have internet and some don't even have a computer.
IDK. Xmas 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015 all share the same flash mapper PCB. Like UOROM or whatever RetroUSB flash mapper, there is a solder jumper on the PCB whether the game cart will allow software writes to flash. 2013 (Solaris) and 2015 (12 Seconds) supported flash saving. 2012 (Biplanes) and 2014 (Queen Bee) do not.
I'm assuming Xmas Pinball shares the same mapper hardware and could have been configured to store high scores. The typical leaderboard format for DMD Pinball is Grand Champion runner ups 1-4, with three initials.
Brian already said he will not add Xmas homebrews for scoreboard due to "custom ROMs not supported." Either way it is what it is but the hardware would have supported this. Possibly Brian was focused on AVS launch and did not have opportunity to implement score saving.
I do look forward to potential future reissue with additional tables and features, similar to the "AVS Launch" treatment of past releases, namely Quadralords, Solaris, and 12 seconds.
